Browning .338 BAR...

I just recently got a Browning .338 Win Mag Bar and I was surprised at how close the ballistics are when comparing it with a .300 Win Mag bolt-action. The .300 beat it out on velocity and accuracy but just barley and the .338 beat the .300 on energy. I also have a Ruger .300 Win Mag and I used to say that I would;nt carry another rifle in the woods with me but my .300 but im not for sure now. Anyone have any expeirence with the both of these calibers?

I love my .338 Win. I carried it on two trips to Africa and have shot everything from a jackal to a kudu with it. Great cartridge that will do everything required of a hunter on this continent. If I had to drop to one rifle (horrible I know), I would most likely take my .338 for its simple versatility. Try some 225 grain Hornady IBs. Great shooting bullets, tough enough for everything that won't eat you, will open on smaller game, and the price is right. I shoot them and 225 grain TSXs with great success.

I agree with DesertRam, If I could only have one rifle for everything I would have to keep my .338 Win. Browning BAR. I just recently picked up some Barnes X bullets in 160 grn. and 185 triple shock. I'm really looking forward to see how my rifle will shoot the 185's. I know that 160's will really sizzle. Been shooting 200 grn Noslers and they shoot ok, but I think the 185's will really flatten out the trajectory. A conversation that I had with an outfitter in Alaska is what ultimately caused me to go with the .338 Win.

If i had to keep just one rifle for hunting it would be my 338-06 Ack. I also have the 338 Rem Ultra Mag and gave my Browning 338 Win Mag to my son when i purchased the UM .Needless to say i like the 338 cal rifle and believe they are much better than any of the 30 cal. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
