these a good gun or do they just look pretty, thinking of getting one in a 223 or 22-250, only expierencve with Brownings has been shotguns and wasn't really impressed with the Gold hunter I owned, but the bps's seemed fine

Most everyone is going say go with A 700 Remington or a Savage. I have an abolt in 25-06 that I hunt with. I started loading for it a couple of years ago and it shoots .5 moa consistently. I've owned it since '93. I would say its nothing special though!

I have the A-Bolt Micro in 243.

Nice handy little rifle that's super accurate, but as stated above, they're no better or worse than any production gun these days.

Mine's kinda grown on me so I keep it around for harvesting my annual meat Deer, and the occasional Wolf calling adventure, but I don't know that I'd buy another.

I have had an A bolt in 223 for ten years and it is my favorite calling rifle. has been abused beyond beleif and still shoots like a dream, light easy to carry, short bolt though, and fast handling.GREAT RIFLE. in my case its sad because I lost it to my 12 year old son, You can ask him and he will say the same. Another great feature is the box magazine.

My micro hunter in 22-250, is a great little gun, I,ve thought of trading it but just can't seem to do it, never can justify having to replace it. it shoots about everything I put in it to around .75 in. groups and has accounted for lots of coyotes, feral cats, and a head shot doe or two. Very good gun in my opinion, and everyhting else I own is Savage. By the way, I aquired the Browning after getting rid of a JUNK Rem. SPS Stainless that would not group any round under 1.5 and had a step in the throat from the factory, and Rem did nothing to stand behind when sent back to them. Said 'Accuracy was sufficent for that Calibur' and sent back a target that was a 3 shots in about 1.75in. There will not be another Rem in my gun case...

I've shot a-bolts for years. All of mine have been great shooters out of the box, with factory ammo. I'm a fan!
I stick to stainless these days though, their bluing allows rust to develope pretty quickly on a wet day.

I have the Varmint Stalker in 22-250. I was amazed at the accuracy with just a trigger job and very little load development. I am pretty much a Remington guy. In fact that is the only Browning I own. I would not hesitate to buy another.

If it shoots good and you like it, then that is all that matters. Every A-Bolt that I have been around has been a great shooting rifle.

Ain't that the truth.
Think I'll put that in my sig line.

I bought my wife an A Bolt in 25 WSSM a few years ago, and it is a very good shooter with factory ammo. It will shoot around 1/2" at 100 yards.
We got it for the short, light action, but it has proved plenty accurate for a hunting rifle.

I have an A-bolt in 243, my son has one in 223wssm and a friend has one in 300wsm. Nice rifles, and all 3 shoot very well.

Stay tuned to this thread, as Toomuchgun will arrive shortly to tell us how crappy A-bolts are.

I bought stainless Abolt in 25-06 and it was heavier than i liked so i sold it, but was great shooting gun after trigger and bedding.
Buy what U like and enjoy it.

Also look at functionality. I like the way they shoot. My pet peeve is a bolt gun that can't be unloaded with the safety on. It doesn't bother a lot of people, but has kept me from owning a Browning. I also think the oversized palm swell grip on the composite stock feels funny to me. Those two features, although quirky to most, keep one out of my collection. I know tons of people that own them and love them and shoot them well. A Ruger 3 position Mauser type safety, can't get use to that either. It needs to be on or off for me. For CZ it is the back gouging magazines when slung. For Savage or Remington it is the blind or ADL magazines that bug me due to bolting every round out of it to unload. Make sure you go over every aspect of how you'll be using the rifle before you buy it. I can overlook a lot of things in a paper punching rifle that I can't in a hunting gun. Make sure it fits your wants and needs or atleast make sure you can get a good resale if you don't know what you want or need.
