Browning A-Bolt

I am looking for anybody who shoots the Browning A-Bolt Varmint Stalker. What can you tell me about it... both the good and the bad, Thanks.

I bought a Stalker in .308. The bolt's action, was smooth as silk, great trigger, beautiful finish. The downside was it kicked like a mule. Couldn't get it to group well, from it's recoil. Should've bought one in 22-250.

I have one in a 204 ruger. The only ones that are complaining about it is the coyotes. Mine will even shoot the 40gr bergers into small little holes at 100 yards.

I own a couple of their 'A" bolts. One in 204 that will impress anyone with it's tiny little groups, consistently.

"There is accuracy, then there is Browning Accuracy"

Thanks for the info everybody. I was looking at these rifles and am kind of stuck in between the .204 and the .223WSSM. I don't know which way to go.

My son has one in 223wssm and it is an excellent shooter. We have it loaded with 60gr Vmax @ 3700+ and 50gr BT's @ 4050+. Both loads shoot very, very well.

My buddy has one in a 300wsm, and it also shoots very well.

All in all, nice rifles.

Own two of them. One in .308, the other in .260. Both are excellent shooters and extremely reliable as a deer/hog rifle.
I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. From an accuracy standpoint, they are very good out of the box and can be made even better with a good bedding job...

JB,

I recently bought the A-Bolt Hunter in .223 WSSM. Stainless with composite stock. Not the gun I set out to buy but so far very happy with it. I wanted the duratouch but found a deal I couldn't pass on. The Browning just felt good in my hands. I put a Nikon 4.5 X 14 on it and was shocked at how quickly I had it zeroed in at 100 yrds. I by no means am an expert so I was very pleased. No real kick to the gun but man, that son of a gun is loud! I think with the scope it is around 7.3 lbs. Very happy with that. Next I will drop the trigger weight.

Hope that helps.

Well I don't have a varmint addition, but I do have a A-bolt gold hunter in .270 WIN. I use this as my "long distance" gun. I consistently hit sub MOA groups at all yardages. and I attribute this all to the gun. As for being too shiny my has a parkerized finish, but gloss wood (beautiful, but gloss wood) topped with a 6-24X50 scope she rocks on most things out to the maximum range of the calibre/load I put through her. All in all Browning and the A-bolt are an awesome combo

Haven't figured out if the "A" stands for abortion or abomination yet.....

How many builds have you done on a Browning?

None for me, never been a fan of browning rifles at all, played with a few and I always thought they were to rifles like KIA is to cars. I know there are some people who drive the KIA's and are happy with them too. Hell, I even own some savages and like them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I do have a soft spot for Browning's scatterguns, and tell myself that J.M. Browning had nothing to do with the A-bolt.

My T.20 was made from a Browning Medallian Varmit heavy barrel. I like it, 5 shot detatchable magazine, short bolt throw. Will shoot 1" and 1.5" groups at 300yds. The fastest I cronied one was at 4420 something, it was a 33gr v-max, before I quit using them. I prefer the 35gr Berger for coyote and the 40gr Nosler. So far I like the Nosler better.T.20

I have the vamint stalker in 204 and love it, it shots great groups but most important to me is the first shot froma cold barrel is like shooting a laser beam. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
