Browning BL-22

In my old age of 34, I have recently wanted to buy a Browning BL-22. This was the first rifle I ever shot. I have great memories of shooting this rifle with my father and my older brother. My father no longer has his so I was thinking of buying one. Are these good rifles? I know nothing about them and was wondering if someone could shed some light. I've seen different "grades" of these rifles that I know nothing about. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

My dad had one for years and we both shot it and hunted with it a lot. I honestly couldn't remember well enough now to tell you about shooting groups with it but it seemed to always do its job when we did ours. Very smooth lever operation. It was a nice little rifle, repeat - little rifle. That is my only problem with it; it seemed more a toy than a hunting size rifle and was always a little hard to hold steady for off hand field shooting positions while hunting. That "feel factor" is very personal and subjective, I always tend to like a little barrel weight out front. As an example I like the Marlin M39 series of lever action .22's but prefer the 24" rifle barrel over the shorty carbine model. I think the BL22 is a nice solid rifle and if the feel of it suits you shouldn't be disappointed with it.

I have a grade II, I bought 4 years ago for $325 and love it. I put a Leupold 2x7 rimfire scope on it. It shoot .5 groups at 50yds with Remington LR. It is great with shorts or CB longs for backyard varmint control.

There is the standard & grade II, I think. The higher grade has engraving & maybe a bit more, the innards are the same.

I have one & like it very much.

I have one, it was my first rifle. Given to me by my dad in '85 for haying wages. He won it in a raffle at a tractor dealership (those were the days). Very accurate, handy, and just a sweet little rifle. Like someone said, they are little. And not much room on the receiver to mount a scope.

Last spring I shot it a lot, more than I've shot it in years. Took it out to Oregon on our sage rat hunt and it more than held it's own.

I had one years ago. it shot quite well, seemed well made and all. as was mentioned, it is really a small rifle, and I just could not get used to that, or the made in japan stamped on the barrel.

I bought one for my son many years ago and last year, it got passed onto my granddaughter...Still works and shoots like you would expect from a Browning...As others have said, it's a little small for me, but I still like to shoot it...Accuracy is better than average with most ammo, including the really 'cheap' stuff (if you can find it these days)...

My dad had 2 of them when I was younger. We kept one, the other ended up getting sold. I would never sell the remaining gun. It was my main rabbit getting gun when I was young. Brings back lots of good memories. It's a good rifle when weight is an issue and you don't want to lug a 39A or a 9422 around.
