BSA Sweet 17

I'm thinking of buying one of these scopes in the 3-12X for my 17HMR. What is the opinion from those of you that have used one of these scopes?

Do they really work like they are advertised?

Thanks

Yes - they do. I took a friend of mine to an outdoor range and he setup with his Sweet 17 on a Savage .17HMR.

He got a zero and then started dialing in other ranges to see if it worked as advertised. It was right on the money. I took a few shots with it and found it to be right on. Of course, the glass itself isn't anything special, but it does work.

Normally, you wouldn't want touch anything with BSA written on it, but this scope might be the exception. At the very least, it zeroes as advertised.

The one I had worked fine. I am not much in BSA scopes, I have seen many that just wouldn't stay zeroed so I would never put one on anything but a rimfire. They just seem to not be able to take any recoil. But, the Sweet 17 for the money {you have to consider you are getting a BDC too} is not bad. One thing to think about though is the complete lack of resale value. If I had it to do over again I would opt for a Nikon Prostaff. I have seen, used and mounted many for my customers and have to say I believe that scope to be the best all around dollar value/cost effective scope out there at this time. Good luck.

i had put one on one of the nice little winchester lowalls and for about a year it was fine, then something inside let go. I sent it back &they sent a new one, but by that time i had found a nice old redfield 6x w/a dot that fit on the gun so good I couldn't take it off. The new scope I couldn't twist the power ring on, so I sold it. My son has the same rig and has had no trouble, but i wouldn't buy another one. Bushnell had a new banner out with the range dial on it that looks a lot better, but bewarned it's still a cheap scope

I still use one and have mixed emotions about it. The BDC does work great, but the quality of optics is poor for the price. I guess if you are good at doping the wind you may get full advantage of the BDC feature. My experience with that caliber is that the wind toys with it so bad that I can't shoot big groundhogs with it effectively( ie... headshots)past 150 yds and the clarity of the scope doesn't help much there either. I would rather have spent the $99 on clearer glass and just learn my hold-over. Another $.02 for the jar.

They work awesome!!

I have an extra "Sweet 17" 3-12x40mm I would let it go for $85.00 shipped to your door if you want it? It's in absolutely "As New" condition with the box, lens covers & manual! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I bought (2) 3-12's , but now only have one .17HMR rifle.
