Bug Juice?

Went out scouting around today at about 7:30pm to see if I can find tracks in the mud (we been getting lots of heavy rain) and was almost carried off by mosquito's! it was wicked bad. What do you guys who hunt in the summer months use for Bug repellant? I know the head netting will work but was wondering if there was a good way to keep those buggers away. Thanks

I live up in Alaska, where the uinoffical state bird is the mosquito. I use deet and a head net. That helps up here where it is swarming with them. I sat in a tree stand 4 nights ago for black bear, and this combination did help.

I think that if they smelled the repellant, they'd have smelled you anyway.

They can see from 360 degrees, and only smell you from down wind. If the bugs make you fidgit around, your gonna' get busted and won't even know they were there.

I vote for Sawyers permethrine (SP?) with heavy DEET, and sitting still.

Just my 2 cents.

Good hunting,

Rudy

Hey browning, never heard of thermacell, gonna have to look into that. To my knowledge, deet is the only thing that actually works. In Alaska, citronella is like an attractant! I don't care the brand, I just look for 100% deet.

btw, had a good yard sale and I'm gonna buy the new Wildlife Technologies 2030 call this week if Bill is around. Excited!

ok guys thanks for the info, rainshadow1, that must have been one heck of a yard sale, you will not be dissappointed with the WT, CAll him up and let me know how it goes!!

I have done research on that thermocell thing and it looks pretty cool! I was wondering how you guys use it. Do you put it right next to you or some where on the your stand depending on the wind? thanks

b204-- When deer hunting early fall I set it on the platform under the seat. When ground hunting it's within arms reach. I just used mine Sat evening along a river here & the undergrowth is quite thick. After about 10 minutes I had the occasional skeeter come along. I use mine for spring turkey, crow hunting, groundhog hunting if I'm just setting & watching the sun drop, & even out on the porch. From early May thru October I make sure I have ammo,ThermaCell, then everything else. I don't sell these but I sure do believe in them. HTH

PS-- It fits in my FoxPro carry bag also. So it might fit in any other call makers bag also. And if you wear BDU's you'll never know you have it in a leg pocket it's that light.
