Ok I don't have the $ for the highend lights and I am just learning. I do have a 12v light with a red lense but it has a cig lighter plug. Is there a way to modify it and build a battery pack kit for it? What would be the best battery?

Thanks for the help
Mike

I use one of those 12v jump start packs that have the jumper cables attached. Mine has a cig. lighter plug on it. Advance/PepBoys/ etc. sells them. It fits in a small backpack for carrying and when I get to the stand I just set the backpack on the ground. It will run my 500,000 cp light thru all night of calling.

Kimbershooter has hit it on the head. I use both my light force and a jump starter pack to run my second spotlight. It only cost me 25 bucks and will last alll night easily. You can even make a rheostat to control your ligth output and that will help you last even longer

do a google search for emergency light back up batteries.
I use one that will power my light for 10 hours none stop.
mine weights in at 9 lbs and recharges with 1 amp trickel charger

At Gander mtn, they sell a 6V rechargeable battery in the ATV department that comes with the charger for $19.99, I put a the female end of a cig lighter/12v adaptor I got at Radio Shack($6.99) on it and run my 12V red-lensed spotlight off of that which is also my scope light now. Nothing like a 1Million CP scope light, I can see full bodys for the shot out to 200 yards easy. If they are still coming in I raise the main beam abouve the eyes and when I am ready to shoot, I burn them with it all and let it fly. Works great!!! I get 6-8 nights of calling with it before I recharge it but keep in mind it only goes on to shoot or if I want a long distance scan before leaving a set.

First, let me say I know little to nothing about electricity so what I am describing anyone can do.

You can get a sealed lead acid 12v. battery (SLA) at most hardware stores with small male end flat posts for connections. Then get a cigarette lighter extension from either the hardware store or a parts house. They usually have alligator clamps on the btry connection end. You can use the alligator clips or cut them off and put on the male end for the battery connetion. Either clamp them with a tool or solder them. Works great. A small 12v wall charger will keep the battery up. That will give you a good solution to your 12v light power need.

And, like others have said, an emergency btry with a cigarette socket works great.

Yeyi,

Does it not burn out the bulbs fast when you hooka 12v light to a 6v battery? Electricity is not my thing so I don't know. How long will 12v garden tractor battery last if fully charged? I have a 12v light so I think the best bet is to feed it 12v.

How does one make a rheostat for it?

Thanks for your in-put guys I certainly appreciate the help being a newbie

Well I used a 12V socket on my jump box and my cig plug light with a homemade red lense that I cut out of a sheet of red lexan. The light lasted 5 hrs so it was great. I have a sheet of red lexan now so for a nominal fee & shipping I will make lenses for anyone wanting one. E-mail me if interested. Thank you all for the help!
