Building A Short Action Caliber On A Long Action ?

So I'm building a .243 win, maybe IA and it was mentioned to me that I could build it off one of the Savage 111's I have. I hadn't considered it but sounds reasonable...If I'm not mistaking the bolt face is the same ?? .243/308/30-06 . Just a rebarrel and some mods, then I wouldn't need another donor SA. Anybody ever do one like that ??

Can't help with the bolt face things but Savage didn't even build a short action for many years. Can't speak for their whole history or models but I don't recall ever seeing a SA .22-250 or .243 throughout the '80's or 90's. All were chambered in LA rifles. In short, LA Savages will do fine with SA cartridges as long as you have all your other ducks in a row.

You are correct they all have the same bolt face. I built one for a buddy of a 30-06 savage long action and did a 260 Rem and it has works out great and he loves it.

Ya that,l be just fine. Depending on your intentions and barrel twist you'll benefit from a long action. If you want to run 105s and seat them long you won't need to single load. Go for it

They use a filler in the mag box to keep the SA rounds forward, the bolt face is the same for the cartridges mentioned. Mine has a spacer on the bolt to keep you from having to pull the bolt back as far to pick up the shorter rounds.
Mine is a 22-250 AI on an old LA Savage 110. It feeds slick and I have no problems with how it shoots.

+1
I built a 7mm WSM on a savage 110 and it feeds flawlessly.

Not my cup of tea. Some don't mind/care, but I like my 243s built on short actions.

When I wanted a 6mm and had a 'spare' long action, I built a 6mm-06..........
