Built a new rack for the ATV...

I got tired of never having enough space to haul stuff
and never having a place to put a bloody & leaking coyote so I built this rack extension.

I made a jig to bend the 3/4" square tubing, welded in the cross piece and finished by welding in the mesh.
I painted it with Wrinkle Finish paint to match the existing rack.

I'm pretty much ready for this fur season now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Many will ask; Why have both?
You can take an ATV on any two track you find (JEEP and ATV). You can only take OHV (Off Highway Vehicles) on trails designated as JEEP trails. You may not ride an OHV on any ATV trail. I ride a lot in our National Forests and they have designated ATV trails where you can't take the OHV.
Also, my wife hates riding on the back of the ATV, even for the shorts rides. She is the one who wanted the Rhino as I've come home from many a trip showing her photos of the beautiful areas I've been. Now we can go as a family unit, me, my wife and our dog. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep same reason i have a mule and RZR is so i can take a friend hunting or the famaly out and about.
We have simular ATV laws here but i can drive the RZR on ATV trails and the mule has to stay on the roads.
Not many trials where i live but we have the ditches and Agg fields to drive in or just get both up on the road and go.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Nice looking rack.

I just purchased a Yamaha Big Bear 350 Quad for calling.

Has anyone designed a way to carry a ladder on a quad?

I didn't like how loud the exhaust was. Even attempting to creep into a stand I felt I was alerting all the coyotes around. Can anyone recommend a quieter exhaust?

Last question, Does anyone know if we can hunt while ON quad in AZ?

Thanks.

Scott,
Kolpin makes the "Stealth Exhaust" system.

There are others out there too so do some internet searching.
A friend of mine really likes these add-on systems and has them on both his machines. I don't know what brand though.

RE: hauling ladders.
Building a bracket that holds it upright is out of the question. It'll be too high. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Building a bracket to haul it sideways is out of the question. It'll be too wide. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
How about building a bracket that cantilevers over the top of the front and rear racks to one side then hang the ladder off of that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
You would only me able to mount/dismount from one side but the folks that had scabards have the same problem.
Just a thought.

For a ladder rack you will need to make a frame from 1" tubeing and it will have tobe mounted from corner to corner , just like what is made for a pick-up...works good for a small boat as well.

sharkathmi - I just purchased this from Cabelas. $60. Not bad.

That looks like it will work. The ladder is going to ride higher than my idea. Let us know how it works out for you.

Heck of a good idea. I have burnt the fur on a couple of coyotes on the exhaust of my Grizzly 600.

I got tired of blood leaking all over everything. This should remedy that problem /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Nice rack? I dont want to hyjack this thread but wonder how you all carry your rifles. I had a gun boot and it has just broke after fifteen years. I need to buy another case and would like somthing wide enough to carry a side by side shotgun for bird hunting also. Any ideas
thanks, Sparky

Sparky,
If you look at the very top picture you can see the front of my ATV. I took a $12 Doksilsport (sp) hard case and bolted it to the front rack using 2 hole conduit straps so I didn't have to drill any holes. Let me know if you want pictures that show more detail.

Edited to add:

Here is the finished look. A hard case for transport and the forks for site to site relocation.

A look at the inside. You can see the number of machine screw heads that are holding the case on.

Here you can see the conduit strap and the other strap. I used the "other strap" because it is sqare stock, not round.

I holds the rifle very secure, keeps it out of the elements and was easy to do.

Thanks for the pictures. I have been thinking of somthing simular, but have been scared of the case sticking out. I think that may be the only thing to do for a wide gun thou. And I like the case you choose I had been looking at the pelicans and didnt want to drill an expensive case so this may be the ticket.
thanks, Sparky

I agree Sparky, I didn't want to drill holes in a quality case (or my ATV rack). That's why I got he cheap $12 case from WalMart. As far as the width thing goes, you gotta be careful. One side sticks out only about 2 inches, while the other side sticks out 4-5, maybe even 6 inches. I've lightly dinged it on a couple trees and a rock or two. Once it's on for a while you get used to compensating for the width. Since it's bolted on it's never been off for over a year now, it just stays on.
