BUIS - DTech Gas Block

I'm wanting to get some open sights for my DTech for the rare occassion that I don't want my 4.5-14 on.

I've been really happy with any Magpul product I have or have held. But I'm assuming the Magpul's would be out due to the plastic construction.

Can someone recommend a good BUIS that will be fine mounted on a gas block?

Or is this just a bad idea in general?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If you are talking about a flip up set on the gas block rail for back up, then don't hesitate to go with the Magpul. I just bought a set of them to try and they are GTG.

Also Troy or GG&G if you don't like the Polymer.

Magpul backup sights are meant to be on the same sight plane as your rear sight, as in on the same flat-top upper receiver or on a quad rail that is on the same plane as the receiver.

Yankee Hill Machine makes good AR products, and their sights are very reasonably priced: YHM Gas Block mounted front sight

These should co-witness with any backup sight when mounted on a gas block rail.

For your rear backup sight, I'd recommend the new Magpul MBUS Gen-2 Rear Backup Sight. These are good for the money!

Both of these options are in stock

Correct, they won't mount on a gas block and be at the correct height - won't work.

I've got both models of the YHM, the fixed and the folding. I use this one the most, and a Wilson Combat folding rer sight (because it has both windage and elevation adjustments, so I don't have to carry a sight tool to adjust it).

That one was the highest quality one I could find for the price. YHM stuff is nice, can't really go wrong with them IMO.

I've actually got one of these spare I'd sell fairly cheap, if you're interested in a non-folder. It's aluminum though, not steel like it says in the Midway ad. (I guess they changed over later, it's the #1 complaint in the reviews.) There's a slight rub mark on one sight wing, I can post pics if you're interested. It looks better than the one they used in the ad)

I have several sets of YHM rail-height sights (both older and newer style) and wouldn't hesitate to buy one of their gas block-hieght front sights if I needed one.

Just an FYI aside from the height issue - Magpul reccomends that their MBUS sights NOT be used on gas blocks because of the material used in manufacturing them. They "might" be ok for a hunting rifle where only a few shots at a time are fired, but they are probably not a good idea for a plinker or anything else where repeated shooting heats up the gas block.
