Bull Horn

I have a question for anyone who makes calls out of horn. I just want to know how you finish/ polish the horn to make it look nice, if you can list your steps that would be great. Any info will be appreciated

Thanks in advance, Vaughan.

Belt sander with 100 grit paper, orbital sander with 100, 220, 320, 400, then 600 grit papers. Buffing wheel with jeweler's rouge. That's the process I use.

Thats what I do. I go to Fine Scotchbrite pads to 00 steel wool. Then wet sanding with 10,000 grit and 12,000 grit. I do this because I don't have a buffer yet. So mine is buffed by hand. Thats why I don't do them very often. It's a ton of time and work.

Same process as Tony. I seal mine after polishing, inside and out, with my special sacuce. I've found the real crappy part of working with horn is sanding and cleaning up the inside. You will end up with cuts between your ring and middle finger almost every time. Inside the horn, since you cant really buff it out, it is best to sand with the grain to about 400 grit wet. This will usually look nice and will get 90% of the smell out of the horn. It also allows light to pass through the thinner horns giving you some really nice patterns and color. "Finished" horns with crud still in them shows a little bit of lazy IMO.
