Burris Eliminator III and AR-15 5.56 something is wrong.

I recently purchased a Burris Eliminator III. I mounted it up, loaded some rounds up and went to the range. Checked the load data for drop before leaving and I programmed the scope so I would at least be in the ball park.

Get to the range zero it at 100 proceed to try to get it programmed to the correct drop out to 300. Well the max programmed elevation at 750 yards for the scope is 230 inches. I have no intention of shooting my AR-15 out to 750 but I would like to shoot 400-500. When I shoot it at max elevation correction (230) inches at 300 it still shoots eight inches low.

Now I could see if it was six or even 12 inches low at 750 yards but not at 300. I sent it in and they say its giving the correct elevation.

I looked at their charts and many 223 loads will not work so I tried a heavier bullet that shows 18 inches less drop at 750 but its still short at 300 by about 6 inches when I shoot it at the max elevation correction (230 inches). I am a bit frustrated with it to say the least.

Just so you know if you are buying the Eliminator III it probably will not work with a 223/5.56 and it doesn't have the option to zero at 200. I am looking for others that may be using it on a 223 or better yet a AR-15 with a 20 inch barrel 55 grain SBT at 3200 Fps I am not convinced that something isn't wrong. I chronographed my loads and used a ballistic program that says it should work fine.

I ran a quick ballistics calculator on Hornady's website using 3200 fps with a 55 gr bullet, using a bc of .25 (not knowing yours exactly but that should be in the ballpark) and it shows 192" low at 750, with a 100 yd zero and 2.5" sight above bore (pretty close for most ar mounts). And 9.7" low at 300.

When you use it is the lit up dot moving down the reticle? The drop you gave at 300 is about what I show with no correction at all.

The scope does move the dot down the reticle when it ranges the target. Not sure if it something to do with the lenses, I was shooting it on 12 power. I wonder what will happen at 10 power, it just doesn't seem right.

Also I am using a 1/2 straight riser below the scope to get it to the correct height, The rail doesn't have any incline for long range shooting.

I've never worked with one but it seems improbable they would make a scope that wouldn't work with the 223. A few guys have one on here, I'm sure they will chime in.

I would say you have the numbers wrong somewhere. They are confusing to set up and once you get close you will have to adjust the bc# to tune completely. I haven't played with mine much but a buddy is running two of them with no issues.

Never used one on a 223, so I must say I am not sure right now what is going on
Please give me your bullet brand and type + BC, and your MV.
Elevation and temp you were shooting at?

Thanks!

Are those numbers from your chronograph? They seem a bit fast for your typical 16-20in ar15 barrel length. Might be doable in a 20in if driven hard.
