Anyone own one of these? I'd sure like to hear some feedback on it. Cabela's has got a good deal on it right now. Are they American made or not? I couldn't find that info anywhere. How does the eye relief compare to a Leupold VX-II?

nope..not american made..or @ least the new one's..i don't have the exact burris you mention.."nor" a exact..or close cross reference to a vxII..just a low powered vxII..& a 3x9 fullfield II..i'd bet the farm the vxII..will beat it on eye relief /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Current 4.5-14x42 FFII's are not made in US. Having said that, I own and use one of the earlier ones made in the US and one of the newer Phillipine made scopes and can't tell the difference. The newer scope is the tactical model and the target knobs are great; both scopes are very repeatable.

Burris Comparison to various other makes

Eye relief is quite ample on my scopes and is listed as 3.1-3.8" here:

Oops.....above link is to the lighted reticle model; eye relief same but price a bit higher on the LRS model. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Here's the one you are looking at:

You'll love the ballistic plex reticle.

i didnt see this post until after i just wrote mine about the Burris scopes. i was in gander mnt. today and played with one of these scopes. i was very impressed to say the least. lee

Cabela's has got a package deal going with this scope plus a 24 power spotting scope for $369. Sounds like a pretty good deal. I can't seem to get ahold of one to check it out. It never fails, if I go to Cabela's to see something, they'll be out of it. Everytime.

The spotting scope is pretty much junk IMO so do not let that influence you but the scope is OK not great but OK.

It's a good scope. I have 3 - two say "made in USA" on the eyepiece, the other one doesnt' say anything. Can't tell any difference between them. All have ballistic plex reticle. Unlike certain other scopes, eye relief stays the same when you zoom it.

Let me start with this.... Burris has one of the best cust service dept's you will ever encounter with a mid-range scope manufacture period... I bounced around with their fullfield line and found it simalar in glass quality to the leo VX-II line (only the tac-2 models tested). The One major thing that I was not, and am not happy with concerning the Tac-2/Tac-30 was simply the MOA adjustment. The glass on the fullfield is certainly adequate for range work and low light hunting; however, a true "Tacti-cool" scope needs to have the ability to dial 1k with a .308 match rnd IMO. (about 38moa up). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
For a predator hunters gun, I think it would be top notch with the pattented Balistic Mil-dot reticle. Providing your not trying for r-chucks at 7-800yds. LOL

I spent 2 wks using my brothers Tikka T3 while hunting in WA with the scope you mention, and the only complaints I have for hunting, are the lack of side PA adjustment and the magnification selector rotating the whole bell of the scope. Making it a pain for Butler Creek covers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

That said Burris is great and I have their 6-24 Xtreme Tac model with the Ball Mil-dot and love it for 1k shooting. The XTR has better glass than a MK4 for about 250-300 bananas less.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I bought the very package you are looking at and can say the scope is great, and yes I would buy another, now the spotting scope is nothing to brag about! Go for it, you wont be disapointed.

I have this scope and I think it is a very good scope. Just from what I've seen in stores it compares very closely to the VX-II. The one area that the VX-II does excell in is the eye relief. However, I have my Burris mounted on a Remington .308 700LTR and have never had a problem shooting from the bench or from prone. The scope also seems to track very well. The ballistic plex works very well but you will definately need to shoot it at different distances to see where your bullet impacts since it is not exactly calibrated to every caliber. For example: with a 100 yard zero my rifle prints 1 and 1/2 inches low at 200 yards with the first stadia line, 1 inch low at 300 with the second stadia line, and dead on at 400 yards with the third line. I would definately buy another one.
