Bushmaster carbon 15

I don't wanna sound rude but why would ya buy something you don't know anything about I always research before I buy......but I've heard for the money they do fine for the average shooter

Well ben the price was right, I know nothing about them but I've already had a guy offer double what I paid for it. So thats why I bought it without researching.

Well, since nobody seems very helpful tonite (it IS near full moon, isn't it??), I'll give it a crack. Many here would tell you to take that offer of doubling your $4 fast. IIRC, they are selling for around $800 new?? Sounds like accuracy is usable on most who've ventured forth with range reports. Most parts on them do not interchange with standard AR-15 parts, as they are not really an AR-15 - but they sorta look like one. Very light, and since Bushy bought out Professional Ordinance (the original manufacturer of the Carbon-15's), they seem not to have given many folks problems by and large. Nice and light for carrying all day.

That said, you can build a poly lower AR that weighs in at about a pound over the Carbon-15's - even more with a standard forged lower.

Do a search for Carbon 15 in the search option above - it is asked here every month or so, and has already been responded to frequently.

Ooh Rah. What he said!!Originally Posted By: NightvisionaryThe Carbon 15 is tailor made for low information shooters. Without them Bushmaster would go out of business.

i bought one several years ago.

i wanted the lightest 223 caliber rifle i could find for carrying when i am scouting for deer and elk. it is lighter than any bolt rifle i could find. being an AR type weapon, it takes down into two halves easily and fits into my pack nicely. at 3.9 pounds before scope and magazine, it is light enough that it has made trips into the snowmass-maroon bells wilderness area up to 9 miles from the trailhead.

i could not care less that it does not use mil-spec parts.
i do not care that there are not a plethora of aftermarket parts.
i do not care that it will not stand up to a 10,000 round torture test.

i have mine set up with a 6x36 leupold, and i installed a sling on it. it also got a sling stud for mounting a bipod. i did have to replace the very heavy factory trigger with a timney. it is capable of good accuracy, but its light weight make it more difficult to shoot accurately.

i have taken several coyotes with it, out to 220 yards. also a handful of marmots. once sighted in, it sees only about 15 to 20 rounds per year. it is a lightweight pack/ hunting gun.

I have an older one ( carbon 15 with stainless flutted barrel and chrome bolt ) and bought becouse of it's light wt. to carry when taking boys pheasant hunting, carry in tractors, and for closer range calling for coyotes. Put a 3x9 Sightron on it and it suprised me with its accuracy. Will shoot inch groups at 100yds with factory 55 grain psp. Took of their comp/flashhider and put a surefire comp. on and if you miss the first shot or have multiple yotes I have been very succesfull on getting them as their is little muzzle jump with this comp. Light, flat shooting, easy to swing and better accuracy than I anticipated. Maybe I just got lucky but that is my experience. I saw one "commercial" coyote caller say this was his favorite gun a while back.

So This is a topic near and dear to my heart. I bought one in 2011 and people back then really hated on these little guns... I got it because the price was right, and I just wanted something to go and shoot a lot ammo was cheaper. So I did, what I found was that because of the pencil barrel this sucker gets hot fast! like 10-15 founds and groups explode from 1 inch- 5 inches at 100 yards... not to mention that the stock trigger is trash. I was concerned. I put a new trigger on it Timney 3# and that brought groups down to 3/4 inch but again it still gets to hot when you're on the range all day, so I turned it into my coyote rig. Put a magpul UBR stock on it Quad rail and a Pulsar N750 night scope.

After all of that I found this to be a great coyote gun. It doesn't way very much, and I can cut that weight significantly by changing the stock and putting the old hand guard on it, but for now I love it. I get great accuracy with very little weight and I have not had any issues with the gun. I love it, its accurate enough to shoot even the smallest varmints at 200 yards, and fox and coyotes much further out.

Its a great light weight varmint gun, once you get it set to your liking. (Seriously buy a new trigger, and that will fix 95% of the issues and don't expect 1/2 inch groups )
