Bushmaster V-Match and Varminter Owners

I would REALLY like to talk with anyone that has a 16" V-Match AR or barrel. Or anyone that has a Varminter and has had the barrel either shortened or replaced.

I have a BM Varminter and it is just TOO long for what I need right now. I am either going to do one of the following three things

Sell the upper
Have the barrel shortened
Send the upper back to BM and have a 16" VMatch barrel installed in the upper with the varminter handguard.

If the accuracy is not there in the V Match barrel, I have also talked with other people here about their 16" Bull barreled uppers(Which I REALLY appreciated)

I have the 24 in. varminter and have owned a 16 in. v-match upper and i liked the feel of the 16 in. barrel it was too loud and too much muzzle flash.pretty accurate though ,but not in the same class as the varminter..

please don't cut it!! If you don't know what your doing ( not trying to say your dumb) you will completly mess up the barrel. The crown of the muzzle is there for a reason and if there are any burs or its not cut square- you won't be able to hit the broad side of a barn. If you must cut it--please spend the $ and have a pro do it. But why do that when you can seel your and use that $ and buy a new upper--they are quite cheap.

P.S.--if you do deside on selling it--i would like to offer to buy it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dont buy the 16 inch barrel for the v-match. Look at the BM website. They have a new Predator bushy. About the same as the varmiter but a 20 inch barrel with a 1:8 twist. That would be the way to go. Its not chrome lined just like your current barrel. Take a look.

Steve, why do you prefer the 8 twist? I've found that you only need a 1/8 twist if you're gonna shoot bullets heavier than 69 grains, I've had dealings with several 1/9 twist barrels from Bushmaster and Colt and have yet to find one that has been finicky. I do like the new predator and the 1/8 twist will interesting but not mandatory.

I have seen exactly what Steve M is talking about. I too prefer the 1-8 twist, and I am shooting 55 gr ammo. when I run out, I'll be switching to 75 gr Hp's though.

I'm shooting a 16 inch V-Match barrel. It will consistently shoot 1/2" groups with trickled loads, 3/4" groups with thrown powder charges. It's loud, but not anywhere near as loud as my 24" barreled 243.

I have a 16" bull barrel on my DPMS with a 1x9 twist and it shoots everything from the 45-68 gr bullets very well (at least for hunting purposes). If you want it shortened, send it to an established gunsmith/barrel maker or order a new barrel to your specs from one of the custom makers. I had a .204 with a 1x12 twist upper made for my AR with a 22" barrel and switch them back and forth depending on what I doing. I like the shorter barrel for hunting coyotes and the 22" for prairie dogs.

I'm perfectly happy with my 20 inch V-Match. I like it much better than the 20 inch RRA Varminter I had before it, and the V-Match shoots just as well.

The absolute most accurate AR I've owned was a 16 inch Olympic PCR16, 16 inch bull barrel.

I've got a chrome lined Bushmaster 14.5 inch M4 profile barrel that has shot several 1 MOA groups, with cheap FMJ ammo. It won't always do it, but it's no surprise when it does. My son has a 16 inch Armalite (also chrome lined) that is just as accurate, he's shot lots of 1 MOA groups with a zero magnification aimpoint clone sight.

So 16 inchers will definately shoot.
