Okay everyone,

I live in Urbana, OH and I am interested in getting a Ghillie suit to call coyotes. I am looking at the lightweight, synthetic stranded, long coat that they manufacture. I am not sure wich color to get for general purpose calling in OH. Has anyone used one of Bushrags lightweight ghillie sutis? Did you like it? Which color would be best for calling in OH? I am leaning twards the timber color (grey, brown, tan, black, green) but the picture on the website looks washed out. Thanks for any help you can give.

I have these "sniper" suits - great for concealment - P.I.A. if ya have to move from spot to spot wearing it. They attract and latch onto every branch, twig, etc.

If you want to use one - suggest a throw over poncho type that can be thrown on and off easily if you need to move from spot to spot.

Love mine - yet hate it

If you hunt at night - don't need camo

If day time stick with more browns than greens (brush colors). If in snow you can mix it up with an old white sheet.

Just suggestions

I don't own a ghillie suit (yet), but as for colors I would go w/ the the tan, brown, black like in the ASAT camo. I think this should work on turkeys because it does on crows. The biggest thing w/ coyotes is movement, & don't wear blue.
Kec: I've wondered about they would be like in the woods walking. You made some good points there that I'm going to remember. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thats True about movement - When I'm hunting coyotes I try not to blink or breathe....lol. They catch the slightest movement and at least to me....they are the true ghosts of the woods. I read somewhere that they are the 8'th toughest animal to hunt...but not sure what hunting criteria was used to figure that.

ASAT is great for crows....lol...thats what i use when crow hunting. Ghillie good for turkey also - if ya have alot of bugs-consider a mesh backing also. Or get some fine Mesh and make your own.

Best of luck to ya

Thank you both for the response. I have a boonie that I have attached jute and burlap to and I love/ hate it because it works but snags everything. I want to try the Bushrag long coat because I think it will work similar to a poncho and it is synthetic instead of burlap. They offer it in 4 colors: desert, woodland, mossy and timber. The woodland and mossy appear to have a lot of green so they are out. The desert looks like a mix of brown and tan but not much contrast. It probably would work great in an overgrown field but I don't think it has enough contrast to work well in a fencerow here in OH. The timber has a mix of colors but it looks really light on the web page. Has anyone seen these colors in person?

Idhunter,

Thanks for the response. I am less worried about the actual color and more worried about the contrast in colors. I believe it is the contrast in colors that help break up the human form at a distance. Solid colors tend to blob up at a distance. The desert color looks to be 95% tan without much contrast. The only picture of the Timber color is small and doesn't give an idea of the true colors.
