Butch's Bore Shine solvent

After reading all the fancy ads for a couple years now, I figured I HAD to try some of this stuff... Apparently the only thing this stuff does NOT do is cure the common cold.

I have forever been of the mind that powder solvents work great for powder, and copper solvents work great for copper, but nothing is great for both. I decided to give BBS a try... I had my TCU bbl that needed a swabbing, it had 15 rounds through it since last cleaned. This barrel has as smooth and polished a bore as any I have ever seen, it's like a mirror when it's clean and dry, and picks up almost no copper fouling... just a bit of a copper "wash" that comes out with one patch of Sweet's.

Well, following the directions on the bottle and website of BBS, it didn't do as advertized. I gave it two thourough cleanings with BBS and I can still see that very slight trace of copper color on the lands near the muzzle. At no time during the cleaning did the patches show any "blue" color, not even from the brass jag I was using. It seemed like BBS is a very good powder solvent, but not for copper, as it's advertised to be.

I guess nothing beats a good brushing with Hoppe's #9 and a patch or two with Sweet's.

I'm interested to hear other's experiences with BBS.

It'll take copper out, but I don't think it's as agressive about it as Sweet's or CR-10. Try running a patch through with it, let the barrel sit for one to two minutes, then soak another patch and run it through. I get blue patches using it, but again it seems slower than the others.

FWIW, I've found the same thing to be true with Shooter's Choice Copper Solvent.
