butt out tool

does this thing really work?? and how exactly does it work because if you get the butt out you cant pull the guts and all the other stuff out the tiny hole...

im not sure i could see it being pretty helpful but at the same time just more work than the way we usually do it

It's not meant for field dressing where you will remove the innards (a meat animal), it's a "tubing" tool where you will be skinning ("tubing") the carcass without the slit up the belly and leaving the total carcass (minus skin).

The hide winds up essentially as whole as possible (minus the carcass itself) and suitable for taxidermy without a lot of sewing.

I have seen a buddy use one field dressing a deer. He used it just as the name implies, to remove the butt from the deer. It worked pretty good. Just stick it up there, twist it a cirlce a few times and pull out. You still have to cut it loose from the rest of the innards, but kinda neat. I agree with bustem19, a knife has never let me down, plus its just one more piece of equipment to carry with only 1 good function.

When I saw it in the store I didnt think it would work but I bought one any way (less than 10 bucks) so what the heck why not, I have used it alot you dont have to reach in with a blade or split the bone to get it out it works really well, kind of weird cleaning it off when your done though. It is pretty light also.

Used it, it works as advertised. No I'm not proud to say it

It's not a required tool by any means but (hehehe butt) it takes a little of human error out of the equation.

ive used it as well, I think it works really well, speeds things up a tad, I really dont much like wittling away down there if I dont have to.

One bad thing, the edges are very pointy and will stick ya if you dont carry it in some sort of fanny pack. Its fairly annoying, though ill put up with it for the mess it saves.

I've used one for several years and it works really well. Just insert, give it a twist, pull out the intestine, tie it off, cut off the part you pulled out and you're done. In my opinion it's a lot easier and cleaner than cutting around the opening from the outside.
I have the old style but now they have the ButtOut II. It looks even better. They're not expensive and worth trying.

I saw it used twice this weekend by one of my hunting buddies. It worked well and sped up the process. I shot my buck right at sunset and we had it gutted and in the truck in about 15 - 20 minutes. He kept his in a leather sheath and it is light enough that it doesn't add noticeable weight.

its a tool that makes the longest part of dressing out a dear fast and easy. , push, twist, remove .

I have had it in my pack for 3 or 4 years and think its a must have tool

I'VE NEVER USED 1 BUT I CAN SEE THEY SHOULD WORK GOOD. I'VE ALL WAYS USED A TREE BRANCH WITH A COUPLE OF BRANCHES GROWING OFF OF THAT CLOSE TOGETHER. CUT THE MAIN BRANCH ABOUT A FOOT LONG AND CUT THE 2 GROWING OFF IT ABOUT A HALF TO 3\4 PUSH IN THE MAIN 1 WITH THE SMALLER CUT STUBS ANGLING OUT TO YOU TWIST AND PULL. YOU DON'T HAVE TO CARRY 1 AROUND AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO CLEAN IT. ITS CHEAP TO IF THERE ARE TREES AROUND.
