cabelas yote vest

I had the tat'r 2 vest which is the turkey version. I bent one of the legs on it and returned it to Cabelas. I wanted a replacement but all they had was the yote vest. At first glance I liked the pocke layout and front closure as opposed to the side buckles of the tat'r.

in use, I liked the turkey version better. The pockets on the yote vest are too far to my sides to access most of them. They dont have the loop closures over them so they can remained unzipped. The yote is easier to put on but it doesn't seem big enough for layers. I'm an average guy at 5'11" & 205lbs. But the vest is still snug over my fleece. I rarely snap the bottom strap.

Also, I can't use my hand warmer pockets in my jacket like I could with the tat'r. My turbo dogg barely fits in the ecaller pocket. Finally, no game pouch on the back which is where I put my hat and jacket when walking to stands. All in all, if they bring back the tat'r 2 I'm switching back.

I'm trying to decide on this vest..... But I'm confused... One guy says 6'2 230 lbs ( fits good with layers) another 5'11 205 (snug) and another 5''11 (fits to tight giving to kid)...... I know everyone's body is different but that's some difference there.

What the he.ll it's not on sale now grr, have to wait again

6'3" 215 fits great with layers it's stuff when you first get it. I crank down on the buckles when I put it on so nothing moves. The vest is great for the back when there is nothing to lean on

Yeah, I don't get the guys that say they are 200 lbs. saying it is snug. I am the 6'2 230 guy and still have plenty of adjustment with my heavy bibs and insulated coat.

Maybe because the back is stiff makes it feel tight??????

I like mine snug. If I put it on loose it feels as if I'm gonna slide out of it. I'm 5'10" and weigh 195 and I usually have it adjusted as tight as it will go.

I'm 5'10" about 160 and I like mine loose. I'll tell you the first time out I wasn't sure I liked it, but after several more walks (and getting in better shape) you couldn't get it away from me, I love it! Great for those 30 minute plus stands to be able to lean back.

Ok so I have had my vest since before xmas. I am 5'10'' and 200lbs. After this weekend I gave it to my kid. Here are my dislikes. First the adjustment straps should be ajustable on the sides also that way the pockets are more in front of you than on the sides where it bangs into your gun and it makes you walk like one of those inflatable sumo wrestlers when you have enough clothes on to keep you warm when it is -10. Also on the buckle snaps they are too small to try and snap with gloves on. If they would have went to the next size bigger and made the straps 4in longer I could use the vest with my heavy layers. The pockets are OK but could be slightly larger. The large side pocket won't fit my fury with decoy attached. The other pockets are ok but nothing in them. The padded seat is a pain in the but to get flipped under you to sit on but when you do it is comfortable. The back support padding is very good. Now for the frame and the legs. The frame is solid but the legs are too hard to get adjusted and won't stay locked when there is pressure on them from leaning on them. I have used it about 8 different time and finally yesterday went home and switched everything back over to my old eastman's turkey lounger. It has more side adjustments and has some large side detachable pouches. It also has room in the back to carry the fury and decoy. I might give it a try again this spring during turkey season or next year in the early season when I don't have to have near as much clothing on. Don't mean to be so hard on these but it could be better. Hope this helps someone. I don't feel that I waisted my money because I have someone that could use it.

Mine is great. I'm 6'1", 200lbs. I have enough pockets and storage for all of my stuff. The straps adjust just fine. I have a CS24C, which doesn't fit in the pocket, and that's fine with me. The remote pocket is ok, but it doesn't work for me because I have an AR hanging off of my right side, usually from my Magpul MS4 in single point configuration. If the remote pocket were on the left side, then it would work great for me.

There is the extra ammo pocket. I keep shotgun shells in it, and I use my water bottle pouch to carry extra AR mags.

I use the mouth call pocket, and they all fit fine. I put my howler in one of the upper pockets that are flush with the vest, and the one on the opposite side carries my GoPro.

The other pockets get used mainly for batteries, tags, knife, etc.

I use the small pocket on the right side for my GPS.

The seat is super comfortable compared to the ground or a cheap a$$ seat, and the kickstand works well.

Overall, I don't really have any complaints, and I'm happy with my purchase.

the only problem I have with mine is I feel the zippers on a few pockets should open the other direction. A few weeks ago I had 8 layers of under armour, rocky fleece and mil surplus cold weather gear when it dropped to -15 and had no problems with the vest being snug. I've had no problems at all with the legs as long as they're tightened. Never felt the pockets were too far to the side. had trouble with the seat one time, but I had the straps tangled around the lags, no problems since.

This is the only small gripes I have also. Everything is good to go as far as my opinion goes.

After a few weeks of heavy use...AGREED.

I still laugh thinking about this thread whenever I put mine on. For you 185-200 lbers. that say it is snug, one of two things is happening...

1. - Defective vest/straps.
2. - Defective scale at home.

Seriously, with my insualted bibs, insulated coat and a couple layers of merino wool, at 230 lbs., mine is still almost cinched all the way tight. I mean I have the whole strap left for adjustment...Mine would easily fit a 275 lb. man with winter clothes.

Yeah I don't have a problem at all with the size and adjustment. I'm 5'9" 205 lb and with UA base, thick hoody, and Cabelas wooltimate coat I have my straps cinched almost all the way tight.

Been using my Speedyote for 2 years now and like it very much. I take my kickstand off of it when I'm hunting in places where I know I'll be leaning against trees. I keep the kickstand in the truck just in case I need it like when I'm using cattails as my back drop.

Thanks for all the great info guys, I'll be ordering one soon. Do you think a Wildfire 2 with a fox jack attached would fit in the e call pocket?

Thanks jr, I ordered one right after i read that. If anyone's interested they're on sale for 109.99, and there's a 10% discount on cabelas brand gear until 2/12. So, I ended up paying 98.99 plus taxes and shipping. I saved forty bucks, so im happy.

No, they have a piece of PVC covering the whole back inside the vest lining, kinda like a shield.
