California License Requirements

Please tell me that you are FORCED to move here!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea why anyone in their right mind would want to move to this place......too many taxes, anti just about everything laws, too many people, poor roads, not to mention ALL the immigrants and welfare receipients (sp??) that are waiting for you to come and support THEM.

What a great place to be.............................I can`t wait to leave.

Thats some really bad luck. Assume you must move to work. Lived there for quite a few years as an adult. Was surrounded by like minded folks (military) so we were isolated from the daily mindset. There are worse places to be and not everyone is on welfare, but they make the most noise so they get all the attention.

I think you have to live here for 6 months before your officially a resident and can get a license. Not positive. but check into that as well.

The beach in the morning, mountiains in the afternoon and the desert at night.... yeah, California sucks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Ya I wouldn't move here nonthing but gun grabbing liberals, and illigal aliens clogging up our medical facilities. also there isn't any public land to hunt on anyways.

NOT
all these pics are in california and are public land.

Well that was quite the response. Yes, I was forced to move here for work but only for a short time (8 months). I'm afraid my coyote calling this year will be put on a miserable hold.

Don't take your AR15 with you if you have one. Or any semi-auto gun with a detachable magazine that holds more than 10 rounds. Keep you weapons in plain sight while your transporting them or it's considered concealment. Oh yeah, and don't even think about keeping ammunition near the weapon while in the car, it needs to be in another locked container; ie. trunk, lockable box.

They rarely sentence criminals to capital punishment in that state any more, but they will for any of the above offenses. Keep your nose clean!

P.S. spotlighting is illegal too. Just think of it this way, if you have to ask, it's probably illegal.

Yes, you must provide proof of continual residence for 6 months prior to the day you apply for your 1st resident license. This is a good law, as we get so many transients that would otherwise qualify.

My opinion on California is that it can be either extreme. If your job pins you in a busy urban area, you are most likely going to hate it, as an outdoorsman. Libs and anti hunters love our big cities.

On the other hand, if you get out into the country, and either central Cal, or northern Cal, you can find some areas that are more redneck and conservative than rural Nebraska! That is the California I know, and live in. Near Fresno. Then, when you get permission to hunt some private ranches, it can be [beeep] good calling. Though in the winters it does get cold, down into the low 40's here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

That's the truth! I'm from Redding, which is actually collectively very conservative. I remember talking to a National Park Ranger once who was a transplant from either San Francisco or LA and she hated it there because the people were so "backward." But unfortunately, the big cities far outnumber us from the smaller towns and policy is made accordingly. They talked years back about splitting California into two states around the Sacramento area and as long as San Francisco went with the Southern half, it would have been a fantastic change. The two halfs of the state are polar opposites in my opinion.

wow california is NOT bad.....lived here in san diego my whole life, worked tuna boats, school, and now applying for sd sheriffs.....sunny all year(and warm). desert within an hour, and the beach in 5 minutes, snowboarding in 2 hrs and HOT CHICKS.....are you guys stoned??

The problem is not the state but the Ultra Liberals and large cities. California can be a great place if you go far North like Eureka and stay away from the big cities (I have been told).
From my visits to the state it was not all that bad but I was not hunting and I was not carrying a weapon. I know it is not the most hunter and gun owner friendly state.
I would not choose to live there at this time but if the money was good I would think hard about moving there to live.

Doc-

CA happens to be one of the more liberal states in regards to spotlighting. Almost the entire state is legal to run a light in, and a large portion is open to unlimited voltage, i.e, not 9 volts or less. I do nearly ALL of my predator hunting at night here. There are only a few counties where running a light is a no-no, and it's not that you can't run a light, it's that you can't shoot a firearm after dark in those areas.

And just a reality check for a few things:

you CAN own a semi auto capable of holding ten rounds or more, it just can't have a pistol grip. If that was not the case, then mini-14's would be illegal. You just can't buy any magazines that hold 10 rounds or more, but if you already have them, then you can use them. I believe the cutoff date was 96 or something.

You do NOT have to keep weapons in plain site, and unless it's a pistol, it does not even have to be locked. a rifle is a non concealable firearm, therefore it does not follow under the same rules as a pistol. But yes, a pistol must be locked with the ammo in a separate box. f.y.i., I keep my rifle ammo in the same box as my unlocked rifle. Oh, and if you are off the road, you can have the rifle loaded, just not one in the chamber.

I don't want to turn this thread to OT, but like was already said by a few, I live at the beach and fish offshore all summer, I spotlight all winter and this year will be trapping, and in the off time I can surf, snowboard, play golf, and ride motorcycles all year. So politics aside, we can't own AW's.........Still not that bad of a deal.

Jephs,

Consider my reality checked!

I'm from Shasta County and a coworker of mine back in 1997 got his rifles and his truck confiscated by a Game Warden for spotlighting jack rabbits on BLM land; an no, he didn't get it back. Now, I don't know the current laws, nor am I going to look them up, but I sure wouldn't go flashing a hillside at night just anywhere unless I knew the applicable laws.

As for California, I've been there, done that for 25 years, have seen the light and never want to go back.
