called coons

Some of the turkey hunter have some chufas planted that the coons are loving. Thought Id help them out,cut young coon distress on the FX3 two coons came running in,shot first one foot from caller,second ran off ten yards stopped downed him. Should I have waited to see if more would show up,shooting light was fading fast. Do they usually show up like that? Thank you

Would have getting pretty dark, I now know that I should not have killed them. Electronic calls may only be used for crows and coyotes in Alabama.

Nope game animal, season and limit. I was aware of the season and limit because I hunted them with dogs for years. Just became aware of what electronic calls may be used for. Glad I caught it.

I think I would have to have a Alabama Game Warden tell me I cant use an electronic call on coons due to this rule

6. Use electronic bird calls except for crow calls. Electronic calls may be used to call predators during daylight hours only during open hunting season for that species.

Tank76... the game wardens here in NC will tell you; "you can't use electronic callers for coon". And they'll do it with a ticket.
Just because...

in YOUR state doesn't mean it's legal elsewhere.
Here in NC electronic callers may be used for crow, coyote and during the early (resident) goose seasons ONLY. It's also illegal to shoot coons during daylight hours.

NCwhitetail not sure what the laws are in NC but the rule I posted was from the Alabama Conservation Site. Looked again found this look at #8
http://www.eregulations.com/alabama/prohibited-methods-of-hunting/ That is pretty much the way it is in most states you cant use them while turkey, dove or waterfowl hunting. In MO you can use them on Snows with a Mo Conservation Order permit

I thought it also interesting that Alabama has no closed season on Bobcat and Fox.

Tank it is odd that they dont have a season. Not to many years ago we could only kill one fox a day with a firearm, trap all you could. Thanks again for doing my reading, just havent looked into it in a while about electronic calls.

Being a LONG time coon hunter with dogs I just thought it funny you cannot call coons, which made me thing that state has a heck of strong state houndsman association.
