Finally got out this mornin. It was still a little chilly, probably about zero. Set up in a corner of timber with about 200 yds of field with a small creek in front of me and timber on the other side. After about an hour, some mixed howls and rabbit distress, one came out of timber on other side quartering towards me from my right. I couldn't get a shot off, too many limbs in the way, he got directly downwind of me and poof he was gone. About 30 secs. later another one came from same place, same thing happened, quartered towards me, came across creek, ran into my "wall of scent" and he spun around, only he ran back the same way he came. Finally at about 130 yds I got a shot off. He was a scootin and lets just say he got a bigger hole in his rearend then what he came in with. He did a couple 360's and kept headin for the timber, quite a bit slower now, but I stopped him before he got there. Fun hunt! and the .204 got his 1st one under his belt. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Is that a .204 Handi? Where in Iowa are you? I just haven't been brave enough to get out in the cold temps. Hopefully I will get out Tuesday morning.

Nice job.

what ammo did you use to put him down. any exit hole, how much fur damage? please let a fellow 204 shooter know all aspects of the gun and ammo performance. we need to let the none belivers Know that the 204 is a coyote weapon.

The only place a coyote has a bulls eye painted on him . Put one up the poop shute and you ruin his day for sure. Way to go with the 204. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Thanks everyone. To the ?s. I live in west central Iowa. It is a Handi in .204 with Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12x40 on it. I used factory Hornady 40 grain ammo. My first shot was like I said about 130 yds and there really wasn't an entry or exit wound per say, more like just an explosion in the ol bunger. My second shot on him was at about 200 yds hit him in the right shoulder, entry wound probably a little smaller than a quarter, broke his front shoulder/leg, no exit wound, put him right down. Thanks again, good luck to ya all.

Good hunt, that is why I don't use the v-max anymore. They explode too fast, great for prairie dogs and such, but the coyote need a bullet that will travel farther than a walnut sized spot. I like the Berger 35gr and the Nosler 40gr so far.T.20

My dad got a .204 and it seems to do a real number on the red fox we got. Hes using the 40g vmax and we r getting blowouts left right and centre. Its fine for now cause we not keepin fur. But it puts them down with authority for sure.

I've only got about 2 boxes through it right now. I havn't done anything to the gun yet. It's shooting about 1" groups right now. I really like these little guns, some do, some don't. I've seen too from other websites that the 35gr Bergers look like one of the best bullets, but I don't reload, yet. I thought about trying to see if someone will reload me some but havn't got that far yet. This is workin so far. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

iahntr, you probably will be ok if you don't try to punch it through the shoulder. I had a few butt craters on the ones that were running straight away, they did not move much. People probably won't load some for you, libility reasons. I had real good luck with the Nosler 55gr in my .223. I thought the Nosler should have a higher bullet bc, than the open nose on the Berger.
If you want you can get a Lee press, a scale, some dies for less than 200$ I like to reload my own, the basic stuff isn't too hard.T.20
