This season I'm going to try for a badger. what is the best sound to use and since for me i can't night hunt will they come @ the dawn and dusk? Are they scared easily? Thanx guys in advance

Buddy, to be honest I've never called a badger in 40 years of predator hunting. I've taken a few, most of those were at night. I was with a few regs in this forum last year on a friendly little hunt, one of the guys called in a badger and took it in eastern Arizona. It can be done and has been done many times but not by me lol.

I filmed the badger coming to the call on that hunt. Came in to a JS Cottontail on a JS 512. Later in the year Tyler and I were with Robb Krause when he called a badger in with a Sceery AP6 and AP7. Both came in at a trot.

This badger came in the day after Thanksgiving, 2003. He rushed in pretty quick to the sound of an AP-7. He didn't seem to scared, but the morning sun was right in his eyes so he couldn't really see anything.

A week later Joel Hughes shot this badger while we were doing a little calling at night. I'm not sure what call he was using, since he has a boat-load. Maybe he can remember.

I've called in a few and had a buddy call in a few while I was with him. Badgers are not big distance travelers so they are where they are and thats the only difficult part of calling them. That doesn't mean that they won't move for some distance, but not like a coyote or bobcat will. About any distress sound will attract them. The badgers that I've shot and seen shot were taken from a ladder which brings up something. Badgers live life pretty close to the ground, I think they look for all the world like a rug being dragged around. If it were me I'd find a way to elevate myself so I could look down into what ever cover your area provides.

So, use any call you like, call in badger country and choose a stand that affords a good view of the ground.

Rich in AZ, I saw the badger at camp but didn't know who called it, now I know lol... Congradulations. Must be something about those Arizona badgers, the ones I've taken in Nevada and California were just there.

Predator extreme or trapper and predator caller had a good article about hunting with a guide in maybe Wyoming? a few issues ago. Pretty informative on how he like to go about it. I would start with the quick tips he gives in the article. I think it would be a blast!
