is the rain an impediment ? what is the behavior of predators during rain !!! do they come out , they bad , im not talking about hurricane and really bad rain , u know the one that doesnt stop many of us from hunting , mild if i can put it like that
I actually have had great luck hunting in the mild rain. I have shot a few coyotes that were soaking wet from the rain. I actually prefer hunting during mild rain. The one thing that I don't like about it is that you have to dry and clean your gun after every hunt. I just set up a fan next to the gun safe and let it dry it out good to prevent rusting. If you decide to give it a try, I recommend getting some flip up scope covers. You may have some problems with your scope fogging up. I had this happen during a snow storm and missed a coyote at about 30 yards because of it. I have a coyote special scope with the honeycombs on the front that prevent you from wiping fog off of your scope. Good luck.
My experiences have been they welcome the rain with the same enthusiasm that we do. Every rain here in the desert is like a mini spring. The clouds are moving the birds are singing and the coyotes are hungry. Really strong wind is the only thing that sends me to the bar.
Definitely agree with the fellas above. I like a nice light rain as well. Like the song, I like a November rain. It seems to get things moving. It makes your movements very quiet. It definitely gets the raccoons moving too if you are into that. Yea the rifle gets wet but just another reason to love the AR!
i asked this taking in consideration the"wet dog" smell , i dont know if coyotes have that smell which will make them easier to be spotted by the prey when they approach them !!!
Interesting question. I think it is common knowledge here that coyotes will genrally try and approach the call from downwind. They probably do it more to smell their potential quarry than they do to mask their own scent but the results are the same. The stronger wet dog smell I think would be offset by the stronger wet rabbit/wet mouse smell leveling the playing feild.
I like to hunt between rains. I go from location to loacation and just sit in the truck. When it stops I get out and call. Somedays this can be productive but like any other day coyote hunting------there are no guarantees.
