calling coyotes

I live in Sumter SC and in the last few years we have been getting quite a few coyotes, and no one that I know is calling them. I had a Johnny Stewart call of the wild record player for years and now I up graded to the fox pro with remote. It is an excellent call. I can call foxes, bob cats and crows but I have yet to see a coyote. We have a lot of wooded areas and swamp, we also have chicken houses and turkey houses but no where that I call have I had a coyote respond. Can any one help me?

ccole, I'd guess that since you've called fox and bobcat, you're doing things well enough to call a coyote. The main thing is, go calling every chance you get, the more stands you can do the better the odds are of you calling a coyote in and seeing it. That's the other thing, maybe you have called coyotes in, but they got the drop on you and left before you spotted them. They don't havng around long! So, keep in mind, coyotes often times have large core areas that they live in, and if they aren't thick in your area, it's very possible that when and where you are calling, they aren't there at the same time. Even some of the best callers can go 5, 10, 15, even 20 sets between successful stands. So, if you go out and do 2 stands a day, it could take you 10 days out trying before you have success. So, keep that in mind.
Just 'cause you've seen or heard a coyote or two, doesn't mean that they are thick in the area, yet!! Don't give up too easily.

ccole welcome to the board. You might want to read calling tactics and sounds thread in the Calling In The East forum if you haven't read it yet.
There's a lot of good info there.Like songdog said, you probably have called some in and haven't seen em.That happens a lot.I have hunted Union Cherokee and Kershaw and a few other places in SC in the last 20 yrs. It's a good state to hunt. How many coyotes are in your part of the state,do you here them howl,do you see a lot of tracks and scat. They tend to use RR tracks and old loggin roads around here or run the creek banks and deer trails through the swamps. find there travel routes if you can and watch your downwind. It'll happen
