Calling fox in MD with Foxpro...

Thursday through Saturday of this past week found me hunting with Mike Dillon and crew in an attempt to put some MD fox fur on the ground. The idea was to have an all Maryland fox hunt and get enough kills to warrant a show for Fast and Furious. Thursday was very rainy and it seriously cut down our calling. We did manage one large red near the PA border and that was also on film. Calling in the rain with VERY expensive cameras is NOT a great idea!!!
On Friday we went to visit an old friend of mine who used to go by JD on Varminthunters GGVG board years ago. He has some great spots for gray fox and for a time it was VERY quiet that evening. JD was also cooking fries and halibut for our dinner when we arrived! His southern hospitality was second to NONE. No fox cooperating at all and we decided (good idea Mike) to take a break and have a coffee. We came back and eventually got 2 grays to come in and both were captured on film.
Saturday found us back in Baltimore and Harford counties and we picked up 4 more reds. Bird calls, baby rabbit calls, some mouth calling, etc seemed to do the trick and as always it was great to hunt with Mike Dillon. The camera crew of Andrew, Travis and Lance were all troopers and I would NOT want their jobs! Thanks for being great behind the cams and I cant wait to see the show. These guys are back at it in PA and then headed to VA. Let me tell you they hunt HARD to put on a good show for all of us and running this many states in a row is NOT easy. I rolled in at 5:50am on Fri night and well after 1am on Sat night. I took a fair # of pix and here are a few of the highlights.

Good job to all involved!

PH, you better leave that shotgun at home and get back to using that Browning 22 Hornet. I'm ashamed of you. I bet Mike carried a rifle, huh.

LOL

Hey Sonny,
I had the Hornet with me on this deal as well as my Xtrema. I shot both my reds with rifles. One with my 17 Rem Tikka Varminter and the other with Mike's rifle (I think it was a 17AH or?). The gray I got with the shotgun you will enjoy on film. He caught a load of Hevishot dead coyote dead in the face. It works on fox as well. While you could have killed some of our fox out further with a rifle, the idea when filming them is to get them in as close as possible for more film time! We generally have one rifle and one shotgun on stand for that reason. As much as I like shooting rifles, there IS something about hitting a charging fox with a shotgun up close and personal.
By the way, Mike killed his last red with MY shotgun so there! LOL we swapped weapons.

Foxpro not only makes a great product, they are just plain fun to hunt with. The nicest guys you will ever meet and its no wonder they are doing well. This Fast and Furious show they are producing is top quality stuff but I can tell you the filming does not come easy. It takes work to produce these things and these guys run and gun many many nights in a row to show some excellent footage. Their videographers are the best in the business and it will be nice to FINALLY see some TV with EAST COAST predator hunting on it!

All I can say is... That is some serious fur & gear. Nice pics, Pete. And how about that industrial truck? OMG!!

Nice pics, tell us about the truck. Is it a giant caller? I see the two speakers mounted on the front under the lights...

Pete and Mike and crew, great job in MD. I was just up at the factory and talked to Mike right before your hunt and he was telling me he just got back from S.Dakota and got some critters on tape and was heading down to you in Maryland.
Great job. Petejc

Been a while since the expo pete. Glad to see you are out after them. I am excited for the show. Good shooting to you all.

That truck would be alot nicer if it was an American company truck. They at Foxpro pride themselves as an American company. It would be nice if they followed their own principles and bought American.

I could be wrong but I think thats a Toyota Tundra, which rolls off a line somewhere in Indiana or Texas......

Another good principle is having some facts before spouting off and looking like a jackass.....
