Calling from a deer stand

I am bow hunting this year and after a couple of very slow days of seeing deer I wondered about mixing in a little coyote calling action.
Anyone know if that would scare off an approaching deer?
I am just curious and it's real easy to get bored.....lol

I was in Kentucky two weekends ago and saw lot of deer and turkey. I watched them for a while (15-20 minutes) each time for two days on about six stands and from my observation the distress sounds (rabbit, birds) of all sorts did not spook the deer or turkey at all.
While playing the e-caller and turning on the decoy it made them curious and they would walk up to the decoy about 70% of the time to check it out. Same with turkey, but as soon as I played coyote sounds or pup in distress, they went on high alert, stomped their feet and/or took off running for cover. Most of these were does, fawns, young three, four six pointers, but few mature eight pointer bucks as well.
One morning I watched three toms feeding for about hour and a half and they didn't care what I've played, but did checkout the decoy as well.
Don't know if this helps you all, but I had fun doing it even though I didn't call in any yotes.

I have observed the same thing. I was calling a large field a couple weekends ago and for most of the time I was calling there was a deer just going about its business. I only played prey sounds and it didn't seem to bother it one bit.

I've not tried it but I know a few guys that alway have a mouse squeaker with them deer hunting. They will squeak a couple of time each 1/2 hour or so. They have killed a few and doesn't seem to effect the deer hunting. I'm planning on having one in my pack this deer season. I'm not sure about full blown calling. I know I've seen some curious deer while calling, but don't think that much noise would be good while hunting. It seems my deer sightings go down when a coyote comes through. Some others may know different.

i have been calling from my stand i am looking for cats i just been keeping it on low i was calling the other day and i doe walk by at 55 yards didnt seem to care

As Sittinpretty mentioned...Fawn in Distress is going to work on Deer or Coyotes, maybe put out a Feather Distractor and see whats happens with that?

If it gets really slow and I don't see any Deer movement I do a little Barking/Yelping and I use the Mouse Squeaker for anything that is potentialy close.I'm also Bow Hunting...and would rather be Predator/Coyote Hunting but were not allowed to carry any firearms unless we have a Concealed Carry License, then Your looking at trying to put down a Coyote with a Pistol/Handgun which is possible for something further out and Your a good shot!

I'm going to buy me a Fox Pro "Jack Attack" motion Decoy and set it out while Bow/Deer Hunting...that way if I do see a Coyote I can turn it on and get them to come in for a Bow Shot...I did put my Coyote Decoy out the other day while Rifle Hunting for Predators and saw 3 Deer come out to the field and leave because of the decoy....so thats a No No if Your Archery Hunting and if the Deer see a Yote they will be leaving or taking a different path away from You and the Decoy!

Another thing to consider..and since we are allowed to shoot Turkeys while Bow Hunting (In Missouri any ways)I would put out a Turkey Decoy, the Deer won't be spooked and they actually follow them around for an extra set of sharp eyes, the Turkeys may come in and You'll get a shot at them...and Coyotes love to kill and eat Turkeys so Your set up for an array of Game and Predators!

Same here.....have had deer and coyote in the same field at the same time. Saw a big doe chase a coyote out of the field one evening. Calls do not seem to disturb deer. Coyote howls and barks do seem to disturb the turkeys. Have shot coyotes in the field and within 30 minutes have had deer come into the same field.

Last deer season I had a doe and a fawn bedded in front of me about 35 yards and what ever distress sound I played did not bother them one bit. Apparently they are use to hearing those sounds. I once had a doe come running to me when I had a fawn in distress going.

Personally, I don't mess with coyotes if I'm deer hunting.

For rifle, our deer season is 10days long, and coyotes are open all year round. Regardless of the calling sound spooking deer, I'm not going to shoot a coyote while I'm deer hunting and blow my hunt.

Our archery season runs mid-Sept through the first week of January, so there's a lot more time, but between trips for work, my days in the deer stand are at a premium.

Depending on deer movement habits, I have hit the deer stand in the morning, left for lunch, called a bit during the midday somewhere else, then back in the deer stand for late afternoon through sunset. It all depends on when the deer are moving.

With the limited timespan, and limited tags, let alone the COST of permits and tags, if I'm deer hunting, I prioritize deer hunting.

I hunt out of my deer stand after and before season and have several times had does walk right up to my fox pro playing a rabbit in distress and sniff it. I can't say if it would scare off something but I know if it's running they will come out into the field and act curious about it then act like the don't care.

Rabbit in distress doesn't scare them a bit. Year before last I killed a 153 gross 12 point within 2 minutes after muting the FoxPro and last year I did the same with a 137 11 point cull buck. My philosophy is that I'm ALWAYS coyote hunting, and if a deer shows up I'll shoot him too.
