Calling groundhogs out of the hole

Just thought I would let everyone know that you can call groundhogs out of their hole with Foxpro's groundhog distress call...and it works most of the time.

Believe it or not, stomping around the hole or riding over it with an ATV and then waiting on a nearby hillside for about 30 minutes works too. I guess they're curious about the noises outside. I've used these tricks many times. Whistling at them will work on the younger ones when spooked also.

Yes, whistling will also work. I use to have this all brass sliding type call that would make all kinds of sounds and it would bring them out too, though not as consistent as the "groundhog distress" sound.

They will come out and stand up when you are using the rabbit in distress call. Killed two last week with the Fox-Pro Jack in distress. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I heard this tip from a friends grandpa but not too sure if it works or not. He told me to take a garden hose (if the hole is close enough) and just fill it with water. Pretty soon the ground hog will come runnin out and you can have your fun. He also told me it works with yotes/foxes. But im not too sure how big thier dens are and might take alot of water.

Agian, Im not sure if this works. And I dont think i would do this since it dosnt seem to fair /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

i just use a groundhog killer....hahaha.. so i dont have to wait...

we used to use a 500gal honey wagon, fill it with water and take it out and fill the holes up.. they come running out every direction and you just start shooting.. makes for some fast paced action.. we usually only do this when they get really bad in the fields or cattle pastures.. otherwise we just pick them off when we see them..

It does as I shot many a ground hogs as a kid with my Daisy .22 pellet gun. I prepared the gun, pushed the hose in and and got back 5-6 ft with the rifle shouldered. It took up to a minute and then it was shoot them asap as they took off as soon as they hit daylight.
