Calling in stubborn coyotes?

Hey everyone! I'm new to this wonderful site but have been hunting these wonderfule yotes and foxes for about five years. Ilive out here in Utah and have been doing pretty well..shot four last saturday and saw a 3 more. My question for you all is if any of you have suggestions for calling in those yotes that have either been called before or just seem uninterested? I've heard that the woodpecker works but never tried it? Tell me what you think...thanks!

Hey bigc,
I also live here in good ol Utah. I am just not having the succes like you are. I am really new to yote hunting and I haven't even killed ONE yet! The day will come. I am harvesting a good number of red foxes though. Do you live in Northern or southern Utah?

Think out of the box. Use something noone else has used. Try a turkey call, box or slate...anything that normally wouldn't be associated with calling in a predator. It's a curious little zipperhead, something out of the ordinary might perk its interest. Even if the call your using isn't even found in your area, it's worked for me. Coyotes don't normally watch Animal Planet..so they haven't a clue what other creatures inhabit the same ground...if it sounds like "OMG, I'm stuck in this barbwire and I can't get out!" kinda thing....more times often than not, they'll check it out.

Good Luck!

I live in the middle south of the point of the mountian. You in bountiful? Feel free to email me.

I have used a pig call....which works...I need to improve my howling though.

I too am from Utah. What will work for you is to put a shooter 100+ yrds downwind from you. If the dog won't come into you, he'll linger right on top of your shooter, let him get the shot!

So...Baboomer, does that work for you? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Maybe we'll see this Saturday. We'll flip to see who is downwind. I will try to get access to some property up by Bear Lake. If not, I am sure the surrounding areas will be good. Also, I want to hunt cats in Nevada before Feb is over. Lets plan it.

Hey BigC,
What is your email adress? I will email you and mabey we can go hunt some foxes. I have been out twice this week and called in three the first time and two the second. I doubt if any of these foxes have been called at ever. Anyway Send me your email or you can email me at Brandoncar@hotmail.com

Try this, when you are calling, call slow at first and then with great panic and as loud as you can blow the call and then taper off, its called shocking them in. You have to try to hit every note till you hit the note that he/she likes. Also try a diffirent call. The more things that you through at them the, sooner or later you will hit a note that he/she likes.

Good luck

Guy's

You are hunting in the Fly way.

Try Duck calls.

Teal and Malard work great near water.

Just do not use them as loud as you would calling ducks.

Try a little howling before you start the call a short yip and howlll this time of year should work to get thier attenchen then use the duck call really soft.

Worked for me when I lived there.
