Calling question

I'm new to calling. I've hunted coyotes with my brother and his dogs for the last 12+ yrs. I just bought the foxpro shockwave and it has fox cast on it. When I play one of the preset sequences it plays nonstop at different volumes. I googled coyote calling tips and it said not to over call. It said to call for 1 minute and pause for 2 minutes or so. What advise can you experienced guys give me?

It's a personal choice. Some turn on the caller and never turn it off. Some run full volume and some run the volume up and down. Some go back and forth between calling and muting. Some use one sound and others may use 4 or more sounds on one stand.

IMO you need to try it all until you find out what works for you and the area's you hunt in. I hunt with 3 or 4 different people and they all have different calling styles and we all kill coyotes on a regular basis.

It is a personal choice. But if you are hand calling and making long stands it's imperative so you don't pass out.

Thanks for reading and responding. And DoubleCK that's why I had to buy a electric caller because I kept passing out! Haha

I enjoy mouth calling and that's how we rolled for the first 10 years. As I aged I switched to electronic calling. I still mix in some mouth calling but have found having an e caller has increased how many a year I see and kill. I am a f0xpr0 junkie.

I just bought the shockwave and really like it! The 2nd night we used it we called 2 doubles in back to back and then the third time out with it we called in a single and since then we have made 10-12 sets and now thing

It's not unusual to hunt 10 sets and day and go blank for several days---but like they say "You have to kiss a lot of frogs to get a prince". I just keep howling & calling and sooner or later they all come running. They have to eat and they sure as [beeep] want to find a mate!

Mix up the howls and barks. IMO when howling and barking use HIGH volume.

I howl every 3 to 5 minutes two or three times. Depending on time of day and area I'm hunting I might do the howling at the beginning, in the middle or end of my set.

During breeding season I tend to use more female howls, interrogation howls and lonesome howls. I also do more howling on the sun rise hunts than I do during the sunset hunts.

I only hunt coyotes but I have seen other predators come to the caller after howling. I don't recommend it if your also hunting fox, bobcat etc. but I have seen all of them rush callers when some howling had been done earlier in the set.
