Calling rifle stock

I want to put a new stock on my Remington 700 sps varmint left hand, not sure if I want a thimbhole style stock or not. The rifle is mainly a calling rifle. Any stock recommendations are welcome!

Wood stock or composite? I have a Boyds thumbhole and really like it for shooting offhand/unsupported or at other odd field positions while hunting

I have many HS Precision stocks, mostly Rem VS SF and Sendero take offs and they are one of my favorites to use on semi custom builds.

I stuck an SPS sporter in a Boyds Classic....it makes a handy package for Rock Chucks.

I’d love a standard sporter stock but mine is a bull barrel. I have no issue opening up the barrel channel but I’m worried there won’t be enough wood to do so.

Chassis are actually super nice, MDT and such. I prefer a more traditional sporter wood stock though but with a palm swell and slightly more pistol grip. I do have a thumbhole on one rifle and find it works fine but is much better shooting squirrels from a bench or prone. It’s a heavy set up.

How much your wiling to spend is probably going to be the deciding factor. A laminate from Boyd's is about $150, a composite about twice that depending on who makes it. It really depends on what you want and how much you want to pay.

Yea....that's why I specified that it was a "Sporter" contour....you might check with Boyds and see if they offer the Classic for heavier contours?
It's worth a shot.

I love the feel of a thumb hole, but hate carrying one for coyote calling. They’re just an awkward shape. Dual side flush cups help, but even still, aren’t as handy as a non-thumbhole design. I almost HAVE to use a high angle pistol grip, so something like a McMillan Game Warden, A3/5, Boyd’s Pro-Varmint, Manners T4A, etc All of the comfort of a thumbhole with slightly less bulk and weight.

ID like to keep it under $400 for the stock. REPETE do you think there is enough wood on the sporter classic to open the barrel channel up on?

For a budget stock....there simply isn't a better option. This includes stocks costing several hundred more.....

Edit; Just realized they dont seem to make a lefty.

Stocky's offer a Long Range composite with aluminum bedding block for around $200/ They aren't bad either. Not sure about a lefty though.

They make a lefty version without the bedding block, would it be worth it to just get it and then pillar bed the stock? Eventually I want to put dbm bottom metal on the gun as well. Would having it inlayed be an issue?
