i was wondering more because of its changeablity to a pistol
(mine started life as a pistol)
and i know how hard you are on pistols up there

As long as the thing looks like a rifle, they don't care, and as long as you do not tell them it can be converted, and do not convert it while there, it should not be a problem.... you might have to fill in a diferent line for each barrel on the customs form, but in my experience they usually do not even look at your guns when you go across, at least they did have never looked at mine.... now us customs, thats a different story , they are a PITA

I concur with the last poster. As long as you never mention that it was once a handgun, or even that it can become a handgun you should be okay. It's very doubtful that you'll run into anyone in authority who will know (or bother) to check in what configuration it started life. And for Pete's sake don't take a handgun barrel with you.

"Technically" that gun really is still a handgun and subject to all the restrictions of a handgun...which includes absolutely no hunting with it, special permits to transport it, and secure transport and storage rules.

I number of years ago there was a popular conversion of XP100's to rifles. I lot of guys did them to make their XP's usable in the varmint fields. When they changed the law, all those rifles went back to being handguns....and safe queens.

I would assume that you'll be fine bringing as many barrels as you like, as long as none are pistol length. Our authorities are fine with rifles, but pistols are definitely not OK coming across the border.

I would say declare the gun and extra barrels on your way across. They will likely want to have a look at the gun anyway.

I work for Customs and have imported several Encores for travellers...no probs.

Welcome friend. Which port do you work at so we know where to cross the border. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Always good to have friends in those type positions. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Crapshoot,
I work on a port in Southern AB....rather not post EXACTLY which one, but if anyone is heading up, I'd be glad to let them know.
Always try to help out with any questions, concerns, etc and willing to help out if anyone is coming up to make things a bit easier.
Havent posted a ton here, but I'm over at 24hour, CGN, and several other Canadian sites tryin to help out. Feel free to PM me or post anywhere if you've got questions. Lately I'm scratchin the coyote hutning itch a lot, so I'll be around lots....

Spent 2 weeks in Alberta last year. Loved it. Spent a little over a week in Peace River and about a week in Youngstown. If my wife would go with me, I'd move to Peace River.

You didnt come up to Youngstown with Redfrog did you? I know he's from close to that area, just curious if you were possibly at the PM Canada hunt? I know there was a guy from Nevada there last year I think. I never got to go, but I stopped in for supper one night in Medicine Hat.

I agree, Peace is awesome country......gotta love all of Alberta....

Not sure if there was a guy from Nevada or not...but it rang a bell for some reason. I'm sure you had good times with Redfrog...hes a good guy. Do you drive or fly up? If ya drive you're gonna have to stop at the border (haha...I know, you gotta stop anyways) on your way through and see me next time......

Would like to, but doubt it. Don't think there will be a Canada hunt this year and the funds just aren't there this year.

Ah ya.....well next time you come up, let me know. When you say Canada Hunt, do you mean a Canada PM hunt? I missed it last year but would be cool if it would happen again to get a group of guys out and knock some dogs over.....
