cannibal coyotes

This coyote was shot Saturday morning at 7:12 am. We searched and figured it was a miss since there was no blood trail. Sunday morning we returned at 6:30 am to the same area to call and saw some crows about 40 yards from where we shot the day before. This is where we found yesterday's "miss". Not even 24 hours later, not much left of this little female.

I don't know about there, but buzzards can do that in few hours here.

We have shot coyotes and came back 20 minutes later to take a picture and the buzzards had already completely hollowed them out.

You would think if they were going to eat it, they would have eaten the ribs or at least broken them. Looks more like avian scavenging to me.

Dan that made me laugh! Not to many buzzards this way Yellowhammer, this was work of coyotes for sure. I'm sure the crows pitched in, but I doubt the crows hollowed it out that quickly.

This is what it looks like here sometimes in as little as 15-30 minutes.

I gutted a deer once and came back 10 minutes later an there was nothing but stomach contents left.

magpies, crows, ravens, eagles, buzzards can make a coyote look like that in just 1 afternoon. been my experience that coyotes drag it off somewhere to eat it. i never seem to find any of the carcass if cannibal coyotes start on it. but darn sure could of been other coyotes.

I think birds as well.

A few years ago, I shot one close to the vehicle, and left it there. I was planning on picking it up on my way back, after hunting the rest of the property. When I got close, a Golden Eagle takes off from the carcass, and it had ripped a big hole in the hide and cleaned the ribs, but the rib bones were not damaged. I went back 2 months later, and there was only a hair pile, not even a tooth or toenail left.

A few years back I had shot one with mange, the next day I returned to the same area and coyotes had eaten almost the whole coyote I found leg bones and parts scattered all around the area there was fresh snow and the only tracks were coyotes.

Stu,

Would you like me to send proof?

I have a picture of a mangey coyote that i shot at a dead pile. Funny thing is this particular coyote was eating another coyote that i had shot 2 weeks earlier. The even funnier thing was the coyote was 5 feet from a full cow and a 1/4 eaten Steer.

Why this mangey coyote was eating his own? Nobody will ever know!
