Cass Creek Caller

I bought a Cass Creek Predator caller a while back and was playing around with it today to show a friend some of the howling sequences. Then I realized something, this call sucks! I've never called any critter in using it, and not for a lack of trying. I recall one time trying it and nothing for 1/2 an hour, I used my hand call and BAM! coyote came charging in within minutes.

Anybody else ever used one?

It's certainly not the best call on the market. You say you started on the handcall and a coyote shows up within minutes. Chances are the Cass Creek started the coyote on it's way, but your handcall sealed the deal. I have a friend that has a Cass Creek. It will work at times, but ya get what ya pay for in most instances.

Well, I have a few of them, and I have used the woodpecker sound often, taken cats with it, I think my unit was a fault when making it at factory, it runs for about 2 minutes before it must be set again. BUT it worked for me, now I use other stuff, so if anybody wants to swop a Remington 700 with 24 power scope, 500 loaded bullets, RCBS reloading kit, and maybe a truck to go with the deal I may be willing to make this equal swop /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

I also bought a Cass creek caller with remote thinking that it would keep me away from the immediate action. We've all used hand callers and had the odd yote just about run over us. To be honest I've used the Cass Creek, this year, many times and only decoyed in one dog.

The problem might be the loop that it plays. It's kind of like me using a howler and only using an invitation howl. If you keep saying 'Hi hello', 'Hi hello', 'Hi hello', 'Hi hello' you eventually sound like either a broken record or a retarded coyote.

It could be the same with the loops that the Cass Creek plays if a yote at a distance keeps hearing the same loop over and over again as it contemplates coming to the call the warning flag may come up in it's head?

I'm building the 'El-Cheapo' that Varmint Al shows on his website and going to record my own distressed rabbit sounds. With a hand caller each 30 or 45 second sequence will always sound a little different.

I don't particularly like an e-caller with out a remote to shut it off and on but heck hunting yotes is always a learning experience so I'm going to give it a try and I'll post my success or lack of it.

I was just discussing this with Perforator on my MI hunters post in calling in the east he said they have been having some luck with the remote controlled version to which i responded as the rest my deer and predaor hand-helds have not called in anything in two years of trying and i also bought the speaker kit for it.Wait last time i tried it i did get a couple of crows to fly by,but they were way up or i would have taken them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

i have a cass creek and have never called anything with it, but i put together an el cheapo, but i put speaker wire on it, so i could hold the mp3 as a remote
