Cat proof mink trap?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to trap mink without catching a cat. My family's chicken coop was raided and 4 chickens are left decapitated. My brother in law saw the culprit from a distance and said it was a nice size mink, but he couldn't get there in time. I was thinking of using a weasel style box trap with rat traps inside, but don't think a rat trap would be strong enough. I don't want to make a mink box with a conibear because I'm worried about the family cat getting in it. Any suggestions?

You are right about the rat traps not being strong enough. The only thing I can think of with cats around is to make a mink box similar to a weasel box. If a 4" hole would keep a cat out it should be large enough for the mink to enter the box and recess the trap six or seven inches back from the opening. Maybe use a piece of the chicken carcass for bait and a little blood as a trailing scent going into the box.

Use a 1 1/2 in the weasel box.

Commonly Great Horned Owls and raccoons de-head chickens. Weasels and mink usually bite at throat and kill a bunch in 1 night.

Get rid of cat....failed at the job of keeping chickens safe....as always...dog would have been better.

just stay outside that night I had a mink coming into the chicken/ peacock pen and I set up my pop up blind and shoot him when he came for the chickens only problem is you need a good light and sleep all day because your up all night.
