Here is a tripod mount I made for PD shooting. Might not be as fancy as some you can buy. But I only have $36 bucks in it.

$11 dollars for the alum tubing
$10 in left and right hand threaded rod ends
$6 liguid plastic
$9 rummage sale tripod
Oh and a couple bolts

For course elevation adjustments I use the camera tripod adjustment. For fine tuning I use the thread rod ends on the rear pipe. The tripod turns left to right quite nicely. It weighs 11.4 lbs

Used it for pratice and it worked very well. I was surprised how stable it hold the rifle. I will take it with hunting tommorow.

Any suggestions for improvement??

Very nice. I have something similar to that, that I use. I put a steady rest on a industrial tripod that was given to me years ago. The industrial tripod doesn't have the camera pan head on it so I had to put the steady rest on it. Next I am going to clamp a piece of pipe on to it to hold a small tray to hold some ammo.

Where do you get the liquid plastic. I need some for mine.

Thanks

Jimmy

Looks like it would work OK, but you will need a good tripod. Most are not designed to handle weights much over a few pounds and last very long.

Good point on the tripod size. This is an older heavier duty one that was designed for the old VHS recorders. It is much beefier than the ones you buy at Walmart.

I got the liquid plastic at Menards (a regional big box hardware store) I am sure that Lowes or Home Depot would have it.

Good idea on the shell holder.

Thanks for the info on the Plasti Dip and Lowes does stock it locally. On the tray, I am using a clamp that is used on a drum set to hold a stand or something like that.

The rest worked good in the field. It worked best for under 200 yards. Past that the benches were better. The wind was gusting to 25mph and moved stuff some. All and all not too bad.

I just finished putting my tray for ammo on mine. It isn't pretty but it should work ok. I made the front support big enought to put a front bag in it.

Nice job there. You've got me thinking I should be hitting the garage sales and pawn shops for a decent heavy-duty tripod. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
