cheap and reliable .30-06

A new Stevens 200, last one I bought was $285 at Sportsmans Warehouse, you can find them cheaper. I would sugest spending a little extra on a scope, a Burris FF-II, Weaver Clasic-V, Sightron SS-II, Luepold VX-I etc., these will run $150-$200 that way you'll have a good solid rig that won't let you down.

Seconded. My 1st '06 was a Savage 110. 17 years later, she still puts em in an inch or so, and has dropped about a dozen heads of game.

Can't go wrong with a Remmy 700 ADL either.
 
one of those mossbergs or a Stevens 200. throw a nikon buckmaster on top, grab a box of the old reliable core-lokt and you've got one of the most cheap and reliable .30-06s around
 
One of the Savage package guns might be a good option. comes with a 3-9 simmons and has the accu-trigger. . go try a few of the ones mentioned and see how they feel.
 
I don't know about y'all, but right now I am seeing the Savage package guns selling around here for about $320. If I were you I'd snatch that up, put on a little nicer scope, put some lens caps on the scope, slap on a decent sling, and go hunting. And yes, the Remington Core-Lokts are good rounds, almost like a poor-man's premium bullet. They hold together and usually shoot pretty well. If you get a Savage, make sure it has an Accu-trigger on it. They help a lot! The package guns are usually available in .270 Winchester, .30-06, and 7mm Rem Magnum. Savage makes them in other calibers, but those are the ones found most often in stores. Those Savages will usually outshoot rifles costing a lot more!!

Know a guy who just got one of the new Stevens rifles, but his is in 270. He loves it. The bull he shot last week with it was also fairly impressed. I don't imagine that the same rifle in '06 will be any different. Good luck.

LOL, took me a long time to learn this. I reloaded every bullet from 150-180 grains you can think of, and could just barely match the level of accuracy I got from the 150 psp core-lokt. So I greased my dies, put them away, and bought a dozen boxes of the same lot # when they were on end-of-season clearance @ Gander Mountain.

That oughta last the rest of my life with the amount of usage that rifle gets!

I have found through out the years that these in the 180's out of a 30-06 drop Whitetail faster than any premium bullet made. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
 
My Sportsmans Warehouse has the Stevens on sale for $259.
If you have one close, you might see if they have the same deal.

I picked one up in 25/06, don't need it, but what does that have to do with it?
 
Come on, bro'! Every man oughta have a .25-06! That's a rockin' caliber that I've admired since the day Remington made it legitimate. I finally got me one, and it'll prolly be my go-to 'light' bolt action deer rifle.
 
Look at the Savage 110, but you may need the trigger lightened up. My friends was so heavy, I thought the safety was on!
Also, have a look at the Mossberg 4 x 4.

Sometimes you can also find a Howa (maker of Weatherby Vanguards for years)at a great price, maybe at Sportsmans Warehouse.

Will you talk to my wife and tell her I should have another 204 Ruger? Lets see, while your at it tell her I would also like a 480 Ruger revolver. Like you and the 25.06 I don't need one, but have always fancied them!
As for another 204, well, I need a backup when the other ones barrel is cooling down from popping prairie dogs.

What the heck are you telling your wife for?

When she asks, just say you have had that gun for a while.....kind of like she does clothes when you ask about them.....LOL
