Cheapest Semi Auto .223

If youre gonna get a semi auto 223, the mini 14 is probably cheapest, but you will more than likely suffer accuracy problems. You want a good semi auto 223 just do yourself a favor and get an AR 15.

I have seen a real cheap little fold up .223 designed for camping or backpackers i think. Dont remember the price but i think it was around $200. I doubt it is very accurate though.

Ok Im cheap...

DougK,
Knowing that you're cheap is one thing, but being able to live with that fact is another. Understandably everyone has to stay within their budget, but sometimes to get what you'll be happy living with, you may have to purchase it one piece at a time.

I didn't see the reasoning or worth of a rifle that's over a $1000, but after purchasing a Rock River Arms A4 for $830, then adding this, that, one of those, etc.....I now own one of those $1000+ rifles. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I wished I'd have done it years ago. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I built mine through Adco Firearms. www.adcofirearms.com

Good luck with your choices!

Doug,

I have a Kel-Tec in my safe because I keep forgeting to take it back to the guy I borrowed it from. I shot it a little to see what the accuracy potential was. With a cheap scope I got about an inch group at 100yds.

The guy hasn't been calling and bugging me to bring it back. Maybe he forgot about it..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not sure of the prices but depending on the model I think they are in the area of $450 to $550.

Its not about buying the most gun I can aford. It's about looking for the best value and being cheap. AK - Saiga appear to be a great value. AR - DPMS and Olympic appear to have great values.

All I need is a reliable and accurate (1 inch group at 100 yrds and 4 inch group at 300 yrds)gun that will handle the dust of the Texas Hill Country.

I am looking at the Kel-Tec.

Thanks,
Doug

To put cheap in perspective, I traded in a Beretta for a Tikka rifle, a Stoeger sxs and Huglu o/u shot gun. The Beretta was too nice for this environment. Plus I had not used it a many years. The guns that I traded for have seen extensive use and are great values.

If you're looking at Olympic Arms, talk to Dtech...I don't know anybody that can match his price, either on an over the counter weapon or his semi-custom job. Bar none, he's the man.

Just got my semi-custom K-8 with a fluted barrel....
sho-nuff good stuff.

www.gunsamerica.com has one of the Kel-Tec SU-16A rifles for $410. That's pretty cheap, But I too would save a little over $100 more and get an AR. MSRP from Olympic on the Plinker Plus 16" carbine is $595, what are they selling for in stores?

Saiga is out. Accuracy is very questionable.

Kel-Tec SU-16CA looks very interesting 1-1.5 inch groups at 100 yrds plus highl reliable. Still looking for groups at 300 yrds...

DPMS looks good and I am looking at Olympic now.

Thanks for the great options...

Doug

I built this from mostly DPMS parts for ~ $750.00 plus another $400 for the scope base/rings and scope.

It shoots these kinda groups with reman Black Hills ammo.

TTLS,
That's a nice 200 yd group. But the holes look a little bigger than .223... looks more like a .30 cal....

The pic is misleading due to being blown up, but the smallest squares (grid) are 1/4" x 1/4".

Schweet price and setup, WICOYOTE. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

TTLS I wasen't so smart I bought the RRA lower, NM trigger, parts kit, and pistol grip at a gun show. The butt stock from RRA. And the complete upper from Model 1. about $900 all told But now I know where my next black rifle will come from /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
