Chevy= China Motors

Hard to support many of them now a days. F150 is supposed to be made in Mexico and Ford supposedly supports gay rights and is against gun rights from rumors I've heard. I will be doing more checking into that before I'm ready to buy next year. Dodge/Chrystler invented the bailout in the 70s-80s, they're out. I'm looking at Toyota now. Haven't seen if they are smart enough to keep their hat out of the political arena yet and their mouths shut, but heard they were made in Ohio. My worthless money is getting harder to spend all the time

Some are made here, some are made there. Easiest way to tell is to look at the VIN number. If it starts with a 1 it's made in USA. If it's hencho en Mexico the VIN will start with a 3.

I don't have a problem with imports per say, but I do not like GM doing 90% of its R&D in China and their links to a clearly corrupt government there. We bail them out and they bail on US workers, designers, and engineers. China does not do deals that are fair to both parties. GM is providing China with 100 years of American technology while we get few jobs and Chinese made cars.

Are you surprised that GM would move to China with some of the production? As China develops it will be the number one consumer of vehicles. Along with India, it makes good business sense to move production to these future markets.

A little further research will show that Toyota has the highest rating for American made and Owned right now.

It is foolish for anyone to believe that manufacturing jobs will remain in the US for years to come. As our economy "matures" there will be more and more sorts of outsourcing.

If you believe that anyone company is better than the next in this area, you are sadly mistaken. [beeep] ford is using a Cummins owned company right now to make CNG vehicles. How many ford lovers like that idea?

Like it or not, all vehicles are that way. Lowest price. BTW, this was occurring long before the bail out.

Might be something you should contemplate.

What does that have to do with anything?

No more than being anti-gun to some folks and nothing to do with building trucks in my opinion. Vehicle manufacturers and celebrities should stick to their day jobs and stay out of social agendas. That is what is wrong with a lot of industries right now. They use their bully pulpit and spotlight to push their social agendas. I love Chevy products and like Fords products, but I will not easily give them money to fund groups that directly oppose groups and ideals I support. If I run out of options, then so be it, but there are still options now.

I happen to believe in real gay rights, although the desire by many liberals is more like gay exception. I'm not a racist, anti-gay or gender bashing. They have the right to work for their fair share like I do. They have the right to poverty if they don't just like me. They have a right to pay taxes like I do. They have a right to vote like I do. They have the right to bear arms like I do. They have a right to complain if they don't like the deal they are getting like I do. They have the right to not like my lifestyle if they wish, just like i do. They don't have the right to change 200 years of constitutional law and history, just like I don't. They don't have the right to take away from my already given rights. They do not deserve special rights or a pass or skip to the front of the line for their lifestyle choices. Yes I have members of my family and friends that are gay, and no they don't deserve special treatment either. The same goes for gender rights and ethnic rights. All United States citizens have the same rights under the Bill of Rights.

You don't see a professional affiliation next to my name either. I speak for myself, not a lobbyist group, not shareholders bound to a company with varying opinions and not a brand. I don't have a prime time tv spot, and no concert stage or awards banquet viewed by millions to catapult my beliefs and certainly not billions of dollars both earned from sales and given in the form of bailouts. I'm just a consumer and citizen with no more pull than the few dollars I earn and the single vote I hold at the polls, just like you guys and gals. My truck payment shouldn't be turned into a vote for Pelosi or Obama campaign contribution. Just as my money for gas should not support G.W Bush or or any Republican in their campaign bid. My voice should be no louder or quieter than any other single citizens, after all it is "We the people" not " For the person or by the company with the most money".

As for the only made in the USA idea. That died long ago. When it comes time to feel the sting of paying $35k for a truck, I'd rather not have the additional insult of having to cut my own switch so to speak. I know I won't be able to stick to 100% USA all the time, but it doesn't hurt to try and not support every cause that wants to end my beliefs with my own money.

Well said Arcorey. Elks, you are right that American manufacturing has been on the decline, but GM did the majority of their transfer to china after the bailout. My problem with this issue is in two areas. First, they are not entering China with the goal of just marketing Chinese GMs to the Chinese, they are moving to manufacture all GM parts in china, and the Chinese are buying up American parts plants and closing them, to make the parts in China. Globalization has benifits but it definitely has a downside. Second, where are we going to be when we can not make our own steel, cars, weapons, or anything else? I do not trust the Chinese as they have proven not to be our true friend in the global community. They are a corrupt government that inslaves their own people and robs, cheats, and steals every bit of technology they can. GM is just a little pawn in their game, and came begging to them with our tax dollars in hand.

The evidence shows GM is going to transfer most manufacturing and 90% of R&D to china!

I guess I'm lucky that I'm to poor to afford a new truck. If I was in the market for one, I wouldn't even know where to start. My last, new truck, is now 18 years old with only 115,000 miles on it.

Don't worry, mine was supposed to be in the driveway this spring. Between bad luck and the stupidity of my significant other, my only truck is a '95 Toyota with 189k miles and a huge oil slick under it from a busted main seal. I went from truck shopping to no truck in a few months

. Maybe 2014 will see a new one in the driveway, until then it is repair the old.
