I just got off the phone with a farmer that has yotes hit his chickens last 3 nights. He said he shot at them last night with a 22 pistol with rat shot LOL'S he said thats all he has.My ? is has anyone used chicken distress with any luck or should I just stick with rabbit? I have a sound of a chicken.P.S going to hit them in the morning with something just dont know what yet.

I called a bobcat with my FX3 and Chicken Distress once. It was a young one and very small, so I gave it a free pass. I've only used the sound a few times, but did have success with it that one time.

bigleroy , rbboyd sells a sweet hand call voiced in chicken distress , hope this helps . Where in Putnam co. do you live , I live in Hurricane .

I killed my first called in coyote using a chicken in distress sound. It has worked since.
Kee's Custom calls has a good chicken call.......I'd try it for sure. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

bobcat1 I live in culloden on charleys creek.I went to the farm this morning called 3 sets.First 2 sets blank third set called 2 grays with grey fox pup swithed to lip squeks and coexed one of them to 5 yards.I have been trying to call a fox in all season with no luck as soon as season is over here they come. But at least it was nice to call something in.I get back to the farmers house where my truck is and he wants the details so I tell him about the 2 fox I let walk and he said he understood why I let them go but he still didnt seem to happy about it.

I have called a few chicken robbers in with my hand calls, dont have the sound on my e caller... not a big need for it around me... not many chicken farms... but it does work.... very easy to reproduce on most of the hand calls available here...

bigleroy, isn't there some exception in your game laws about predators that are destroying farm animals. I think in MO the property owner, or his agent, can eliminate any predator of that type regardless of season. I'd check with the local conservation officer.

I know if one of our farmers were having a problem like that, the predator would come out on the short end..

You don't have to have chickens around for the sound to work on predators. The bobcat I called was smack dab in the middle of about 250,000 acres of National Forest where the nearest chicken could possibly be a very, very, long way off. If it sounds like something hurtin', predator critters will come.

GC I agree, its just not one of my go to sounds.. I killed one two weeks ago on a form that has chickens, nothing wanted my dying chicken... lol go figure so I ended up using one of my buffalo horn howlers with pup distress.... I did the same as you last year and killed one with the chicken sound in the middle of nowhere, where there was no chicken for miles... I try to use all my sounds on my hand calls a lot, kinda keeps me in practice.

I've used the chicken distress around poultry farms in the past and had some luck on fox. I've also had luck with a turkey call in the late afternoon before dusk.just don't use it during turkey season in PA. unless you got valid tag and got the required orange band around the tree.

Have you tryed an alive chicken just hang it upside down or something I have heard of it being done.

Why would you need to go to such lengths? That's one of those things people do who can't call coyotes. They don't understand, or, won't take the time to learn about the coyote and how to call and actually hunt predators.

Called in a coyote this year with chicken distress, but my hunting partner missed him from 30 yrds. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif I would say it works best where chickens are at which is your case.

If you have been hunting around areas thats heard all the rabbit screams and some of the more popular sounds, the chicken in distress could be your ace in the hole, that will bring them in.

I ought to have a recorder when I am butchering chickens or just go in the chicken house a grab one at night. Good idea.

I've killed a couple this year with Chicken Distress while using my Jack in the Box with a chicken instead of the raccoon. It's about the size of a half grown leghorn. Looks great! Lots of chicken houses here.
