Chinese Ammo- Horror Story

A friend just called and told me a crappy story. His bro in law just recently got a new S&W model 629. He bought some china made ammo for it. Loaded it up and fired a round. The round on either side discharged and blew the 629 to Haydes! Blew the top strap and buldged the cylinder. As of now, bro in law is saying the ammo is only marked Made in China. This is why I never shoot cheep ammo. I know others do, just saying that I don't. Still a crappy story. Not alot of info and it sounds tall, but he says he has pics. I haven't seen them yet.
 
WRONG CALIBER AMMO ? BARREL PLUGGED WITH SOMETHING ? If not i'd take it back to where he bought the gun from SOMETHING FISHY THERE !

When I used to work sales/customer service for a gun manufacturer/importer, I had the opportunity to see a lot of blown-up guns and bulged barrels that would come in to our gunsmiths in the repair/warranty shop.

There were usually two culprits - either cheap, foreign ammo that was not rated at SAAMI specs or reloads that were loaded above safe levels.

That's why a lot of firearms manufacturers will only warranty firearms if you blow them up with SAAMI spec (i.e. factory) ammo - not the unidentifiable imported stuff or reloads. And we did have the occasional blown up gun come in that was running SAAMI factory stuff as well, but this was the exception, not the rule.

Most importantly, glad to hear the shooter is okay. Blow ups don't always turn out so well.

My BS antenna are really out there.
I suspect the pics will be the same ones that have been circulating for a couple years and were actually double loads of a fast powder.

Jack- If you knew the guy telling the story, your BS meter would be ringing off the wall. Only catch, He claims its his Bro in law. I just have to wait till he comes up with a picture.
 
Seen the picture, it's been floating around for over a year. What Chinese company loads .44 magnum? Not that I know all small arms manufactured, but I been playing this game for......longer than I want to admit and I have never seen any.
