Chipped muzzle crown?

I got to looking at my muzzle crown & it appears I have a small chip. Has anyone had any experience with something like this? What do I need to look for in a good gunsmith to tackle the job? What is the typical cost involved?

I have had a few rifles recrowned. I have found several from the factories that were not cut straight. (another reason to buy custom barrels). It could have been caused by a loose brush on the cleaning rod and the threaded part bumped it on the way back in, not likely but could happen. The process will be to insert a pilot of the correct demensions in the barrel, chuck the barrel in a lathe and center on the pilot, remove pilot and recrown the barrel. There are some hand tools that will do the job at home, I am not familiar with them and have never tried one. The cost should be around 50.00.

Thanks for the response guys. I just got back from the gunsmith at Hewitt guns. Recrown for $12.50 plus tax, better than new. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif ..Slim
