got some #3 buck, 2 3/4". have a modified and an extra full choke. gonna use it for fox/coyote. would the extra full hurt the gun by being to constricted? i dont know if the modified would be tight enough out at longer ranges. i plan on patterning it as soon as this storm leaves but was just wondering if anyone had any inut as there doesnt seem to be much info on this topic

extra full choke will not hurt your gun. you may be surprised to see that the modified patterns better but you need to pattern to be sure. a lot of people seem to like the improved cylinder tube. pattern and you will know.

Trulock recommended extra full for this same load... I have the choke but yet to pattern....

you will find a trend... Quality shot that is hard and copper or nickel plated will generally respond well to more choke... Cheap shells with soft shot may pattern better with more open chokes like modified... Seems pretty obvious that if you squeeze soft shot it deforms and pellets that are not round fly out of the pattern. So for the 20 there are few options.... Cheapo remington, maybe less choke... Federeal copper plated in the red box more choke...

If you reload look into loading BB size shot you will get 50 pellets vs 20 with enough power to take down dogs. If your gun shoots 3" a company makes 3" BB suitable for predators but can't think of the name right now.

Shotgun chokes are like rifles. Each one reacts differently to the size shot your are shooting. I use a 20 ga with #3 buck and in one gun the Mod choke is the tightest pattern and in the other the full choke is the best. Take it out and draw a circle on the target and shoot. That's the only way to find out for sure.

I also use a 20ga with 2 3/4 inch 3 buck. I have an undertaker turkey choke on mine. It patterns well out to 30-35 yds. Seems to do the trick just fine.
