phone 330-939-3673. they have what they call a animal catcher in two sizes, 34" and 48". yes you can make your own by fastening a piec of cable to the end of a metal pipe, run the cable back thru the pipe makeing a big loop in the cable where it is fastened to the pipe (loop should be big enough to slide ofer the head of the biggest animal you want to handle), allow about 12" of cable on the oposite end, drill a hole thru a piece of broom stick and fasten loose end of cable ot it. this will work but almsot reauires an extra hand to release the trap as both your hands or busy useing the release pole. the manufactured ones i have have some kind of pinch stop that holds the cable at the point where you stopped tightening it and then by pulling on the end you can release it.

I think Ketch-All makes one of the best choke poles on the market, but they're not cheap. However, I found a place in Wyoming that has the 5 foot Ketch-All model for $87 shipped. Most other places are over $100 plus shipping. I think the company name was Jetco.

i built my own from galvanized conduit...

i drilled a hole in the loop end of the pipe... ran a length of cable through the hole and put a ferrel on the end.....hooked a piece of chain to the other end of the cable.... ran the chain and cable throught he conduit and rigged a loop in the end of the chain... took a hack saw and cut a notch in the hand end of the pole... cinch it down on the critter and hook the chain in the notch....youre good to go.. i spent 3.00 on supplies...

We have always used conduit and electrical wire like #12 thhn. I'm an eelctrical contractor so it was laying around and we needed a pole to tranfer a coon from a live trap to a roll cage.

Just take a length of wire, double it over and run it thru the 3/4" conduit. Done. After you tighten it up on the critter just fold/bend the wire back against the conduit and you can hold a big coon with one hand. We've also used it for fishing coons outta barns and corn cribs when they get into the walls.

tach...
not sure on that one... haven't caught either of those critters here in ks.... works great on coon/yotes/bobcats tho'

ps.. i wasn't trying to contradict you....

I just thought it sounded light duty, never seen one used or how they look. I tried using a hog catcher that I lengthend, I then bought a good one. The ability to hold the loop tight and easy release is nice on the expensive ones.T.20
