Christensen Mesa - brake removal

Christensen Arms Mesa specs & statement on their website says that the Mesa’s “seamless” muzzle brake is removable. Since there is no seam between the brake & barrel, how do you remove the brake? Some web searching indicates that you have to score the Cerakote to attempt to remove the brake, and there’s a risk of damaging the finish/Cerakote. I don’t think that this is an attractive technical attribute. Anyone removed a Mesa brake? Thanks.

I think I will soon. I’ll pass along what they say. Unfortunately, at this point it’s a spec. that I don’t think I’m willing to accept in consideration of a purchase if in fact the Cerakote has to be “parted”.

I contacted C.A. and asked specifically 1) how the Mesa brake can be removed, and 2) do they NOT recommend removing it? They quickly replied but did not specifically answer my questions. They stated that it can be removed.

However, they did send me a picture of the tip of barrel of a Mesa with the radial brake partially unscrewed. The separation of the Cerakote was clean and precise. Although they did not specifically address my question, I appreciate their response and my first impression of customer service is very good. That’s a plus.

Most of the time during the manufacturing process, they time certain brakes, others there's no need because of the porting design, once the install is done, they bead blast the barreled action or if it's a CF, the steel muzzle end that the brake is threaded to, then once it's cerakoted, the seam now seams, seamless. Doesn't mean you still can't remove the brake.

So you can 1) shoot it with the brake, which sucks a$$.
Or you can 2) Man up, vice that [beeep] up, and break that seam so you can continue with your suppressor install.

Not that my vote matters, but I vote to vice that beech up and break the seam so you can run it suppressed...

YES!

I’d be willing to bet it won’t take much to get it off. Pry bar of some kind with tape or leather to keep from marring and twist it off. It’s a rifle not a puppy.
