Chronograph recommendations??

Magnetospeed sporter with the phone app. Gave me wonky [beeep] results last time....would go from 2700fps to 3500fps the next shot. Haven't tried troubleshooting it yet, but I'm betting I was not allowing enough time between shots. Other than that, it's been great. Def like it.

I’m using a Caldwell G2 and I’m really happy with it. I had it set up at the range and a guy came over to show off his fancy lab radar chronograph that I was too cheap/poor to buy. I ran them both at the same time to compare accuracy and was very pleasantly suprised that my G2 was dead on with the results of his much more expensive lab radar. (Often the same exact reading, and always within 1-2 fps)

I've got a magnetospeed sporter as well but didn't have any luck with the phone app, never would sync up. The little monitor box works fine, easy to set up for the most part, just don't get in a hurry and check it after a few shots. They can work loose. I use a wooden dowel cut down to 18" to make sure the bayonet will be clear of the bullet path.

I have a Shooting Chrony Alpha Master, as good as they come for accuracy. It doesn't keep a memory of shots if you turn it off, it doesn't hook up to a printer, or smart phone capable, but the read out can sit on my table next to my note pad and cost $116.00 to my door. It does track shot strings with AD and SD while turned on. With the read out , which is the also the brains of this model, on my table it's hard to shoot it by mistake too. They do have models with all the features mine doesn't, but I just wanted to see how fast my shots were running. I'm happy with it.

I have two, Chrony Beta and a Beta Master. The Beta Master is set up with the Caldwell IR screens and work well in all light conditions. I often test loads suppressed and got wonky Lab Radar results on a friends unit. The early Magneto Speed another fella had was fussy as well. The IR screens and the zone to shoot across the screens is marked with blue tape on the screen rods for best consistent results. The Beta was a freebie that some fella tossed in the range trash can after clipping one of the screen rods. His very crappy tripod was also damaged, I took the Beta home, straightened the rods...fixed.

I use a Competition Electronics chronograph with good results. I was going to get a Magneto-Speed, but I figure I will just save longer and get a Radar type chronograph.

Magnetospeed here too.
Never a glitch since day one.

I sold my Beta when I got my Magnetospeed. But I wish I'd have kept the Beta too. There are some things I like about the Magnetospeed, but other things I don't. I hate that I can't do real load work with it attached. And it's just kind of a PITA if you are shooting several different rifles and especially if they have very different muzzle diameters. Beta doesn't have those issues. It would struggle with fast .17's in the wrong light some days though.

Would have got the Lab radar instead of the Magnetospeed, but until I bought a .223 recently, I wasn't shooting anything that wasn't over it's speed limit. So it would be kind of like nipples on a boar for me.

I wouldn't work up loads with my Magnetospeed attached to the barrel. It still shoots great groups, but the POI changes about 1-2 moa high. Other than that, I'm happy with it.

I've had similar results with smaller calibers, and just use it for
checking speed after getting a load to produce tight groups. It
doesn't seem to effect my heavy calibers at all with 250gr+ bullets.

My chronograph history:
1. Alpha Chrony - deceased with muzzle loader sabot.
2. Alpha Chrony #2 - deceased with muzzle loader magnum sub-base (went
through 1/4" plexi-glass cover.
3. ProChrono - Too light. ML blasts rocked tri-pod backwards. Had to
tie it with a chord to shooting bench.
4. Magnetospeed V1 - All is well. Much less of a problem changing out
spacers for different barrel diameters than worrying about light,
shutting down the firing line, setting up, tearing down, yadda-yadda

I’m cheap, I have a ProChrono. Honestly, it’s been awesome! Reads every time and records your five shot strings for avg, high and low. Accurate too.

Try different volumes on the phone when it's plugged in. That should make it work.
