Chronograph

I'm needing a new chrono. I currently have a Shooting Chrony Alpha Master Chronograph and it's been junk since I got it. Seldom does it read right and the company wasn't much help. So I'm looking for another one. I don't use them but a few times a year but what's a good "bang for your buck" ??

The Magnetospeed V3 is a great unit for sure but if you don't shoot anything with a barrel larger than 1 inch the Magnetospeed Sporter model very well could suit your needs and they cost about half what the V3 does. The Sporter model lacks a couple features the V3 has but it's just as accurate. I'd give them a look and compare theirs features and abilities before I bought one. Either way, you can't go wrong and if you do purchase one of the Magnetospeed models, you'll find yourself using it a lot more because it's so easy to setup and use.

I was looking at them. I don't shoot anything close to 1" barrel so the sporter would probably suit me much better

I looked at both models and for the price difference I still purchased the V3 because I have no idea of what I'll be shooting down the road.

I'd rather have something I can use on all my guns, not all but one or two. JMO

Wouldn't mounting something on the barrel change or dampen the vibration and change accuracy or point of impact?

Absolutely.

From my experience using a Magnetospeed sporter on a heavy barrel Savage in 204 the point of impact rose about an inch at 200 yards and had a slight impact on grouping. I'm currently waiting for spring to get out and shoot some hand loads I made up this winter. I will be using the OCW method so I will find the best grouping loads first then chrony them with the Magnetospeed. This adds an extra step but I'm okay with that.

As long as you don't plan on shooting surpressed the sporter should work for less. But if you plan on shooting surpressed I would buy the v3 I think most surpressors are 1.5.

Everything I shoot has a sporter barrel or my ARS are all .750. I probably won't put 2 dozen rounds across a chrony a year. Just to double check loads before seasons and when opening new lots of powder

Sounds like a Magnetospeed Sporter model would be perfect for you.
