What are you guys using to clean your 550's seems the ram on mine has got a bit sticky. Using gun scrubber and re oiling not fixed it. Any advice? Thanks

You can take your press apart if you would like. I have a 450 which is basically the same press. Tap out the lower pivot pins on the link arms, remove the shell plate base and the ram will drop out. You can inspect the ram and where the ram moves in the press now. You may have gummy lube or a burr somewhere. At least you should be able to clean everything up nicely. I hope this helps, good luck.

When you say "a bit sticky" are you getting a sticky buildup on the ram or just harder than normal handle operation? If buildup on ram, wipe w/a Kroil soaked rag should remove.

I purchased a 2nd 450 used a while back and handle was quite stiff compared to my original press. Took it apart and found that one of the handle links (if I remember correctly; might have been one of the main ram or toggle pins????) was gaulded causing stiff operation. I split a 1/4" rod and wrapped fine crocus cloth to make a hone and polished the hole, lubed all pins and problem went away.

An occasional drop of Kroil or good gun oil on pins & ram will go a long way to keep your press operating smoothly.

Regards,
hm

Edit to add: Remember links, toggle, etc. are aluminum so if you have to hone, go sparingly.

You can also try some parts or brake cleaner and spray it up real good. let it dry and then re-lube with your choice of lubricant.

Call Dillon and they will tell you the best way to clean and lubricate your press. I have done this, but it's been so long ago, I don't remember exactly the procedure or products to use.
At one point, I did send my RL 450 to Dillon for cleaning, re-alignment, and upgrades.

Call Dillon and see if there is a manual that tells how to disassemble it for cleaning. Keeping it clean and well lubed goes a long way for keeping any press in top shape.
