Clip ons worth it?

So I just bought a thermal clip on to pair up with my nightforce nx8. My thought process was I do way more day hunting then night. So I didn’t want a dedicated scope just for night hunting. But I do want to get a little more into night hunting. Now im not sure I made the right choice, or im going to be happy with it.
Any one have good experience with clip ons?

I went with the Sig Echo cv25
The lifetime warranty is what sold it for me.
I know there is not allot of information or reviews out there for it.
I assuming ? that the Term, clip-on is manual Collimation ? That you can do image shifting to witness day scope zero . I have only owned NV clip-on's so I just curious. except for the pvs9 that is manual, others are collimating factory set.
.

I’m in the same boat as you, except I haven’t pulled the trigger on the clip on yet. I shoot NX8’s exclusively so I’m interested to see how you like your set up.

I’ll have to keep everyone updated. I’ll play with it soon as I get it but won’t be really putting it to use till my barrel also comes in

I have a lwts and it is a true colimnated clip on, and it works really good and I never have wandering zeros like a have with dedicated thermals, but it was expensive, I have friends who bought clip ons that are not colimnated and it seems like more work than I would like, I would rather just use a dedicated thermal than the ones they use.

I just got it in, it pairs up with the nx8 very nicely, it has two different modes. Clip on mode (no reticle, besides the reticle on your day scope) and stand alone (own reticle and zeroing abilities, with 1-8x zoom, so can run as a dedicated unit).
I’ll have to give a better review after I have a chance to get out and use it.
It only takes me about a second to take it off or put it on,

Any updates on this sig clip on?
So haven’t got to use quite like I have wanted.
But I still have gotten it out a bunch. (Disclaimer: this my first and only experience with thermal)
It seems to have good detection range, I have no problem picking out cats, coyotes, raccoons. Livestock out to 1000 or so yards, could possibly be to see them further but haven’t gone anywhere to test that.
I’m currently running it as a stand alone unit on my ar (it has its own reticle and zeroing features) as I still haven’t got that barrel for my 22 creed build. I’ve put it in front of the nx8 and really liked it.
I’ve put it in front of my brother Red Dot and was blown away how nice that was.
The quick detach system is very nice and locks down on the rail firmly. There is a nut on there you can tighten or loosen to adjust to the different tolerances of the rails.
So far my only gripe with it is that I’m having trouble connecting it to my phone so I can do firmware updates and download videos/pictures (could easily be user error since I’m not very tec savvy)
The buttons have dual functions so that takes a second to get use to but becomes very nice and makes for navigating through settings and functions easy on the fly.
I want to put it side by side with some other ones and see what the difference are.

I hope this was helpful and I’ll try to continue to keep y’all updated as I use it more and get it on my rifle that it was meant for!

Well if you are taking it off and putting it back on to shoot(no zero checking shots) don't you need to be able to hit your target? If not taking it off/on, than probably should have purchased a scope.

I not have the Sig. therm. clip-on, but pretty savvy current with NV clip-on's . It a matter of building trust with your clip-on, and only way to do that is get an established POI Zero set . Then walk out for 'several nights' and just setup a100 yrd. target and take a shot, remove clip-on, walk down to look at target hole, put clip-on back on, then take another shot and remove clip-on, Do Over and Over . Repeat several times, Do over several nights . You have to build a relationship with your Clip-on just like any gear you run.

You should be 100% up on your 1st round dirty cold bore shot out your rifle anyway with your day scope. It Same with your clip-on also . I take the clip-on I run at night out a least 2 -3 times a month just to lay down a cold bore shot with it also . my personal requirement for the Clip-on with dirty cold bore shot and follow-up shots for group, better be inside 1 MOA of my dayscope .

I get what you mean now. Yes that’s the plan. I bought it specifically for that reason (swapping between day and night) and for a specific gun I’m building. Unfortunately the build isn’t complete yet as my barrel that was suppose to be here the same time my thermal was has now been pushed out a couple more months.
I do appreciate the help. For I wouldn’t have thought about hand warmer. I will be doing that before I start trying to hunt with it!

I appreciate the help, truly do. This is my first experience with any thermal. I’ll be sure to do that before I start trying to hunt.

Myself and I'm sure indexfinger aren't doubting your purchase. I'm very interested in your experiences with the product and hope it performs well and you get in on some coyote kills using it.

Ive never heard of those. So if it goes into the objective end of your scope, and you can run it with no reticle, then there shouldnt be any issue with a zero taking it on and off since youre just using the reticle on the scope. Im interested in getting one now
