CMC 2/2.5lb competition trigger VS a 3 lb timney in my LR243...help me decide

I am putting together an Areo complete lower with an AR stoner 243 upper and now it's trigger time. My upper should be here this afternoon and my lower is in order. $650 so far invested and all it needs is a stock to be complete. I have a timney 3lb single stage trigger in my POF P415 and love it. I can shoot cloverleaves at a 100 yards and .3" groups at 200 yards with it. The original 4.5lb shot best .4" with the same load so I sold it to pay for the timney.

It looks like the only LR 10 option timney offers is 4.5lbs. I want lighter. I narrowed it down to another 3lb timney or a 2/2.5lb CMC single stage competition trigger rated for both AR/LR 10's and 15's where the timney has a lighter spring and hammer rated for the 15's only.

Well we all know a 243 is not a 308. I don't plan on ever seeing myself buying military loaded 243 bulk ammo with hard primers. They only thing I'll run through it will be my reloads with what ever across the counter primer I buy at the time. So I would guess I won't have a problem using either trigger? I did see some videos of the CMC trigger ratting after install. I called CMC and they told me about nintey percent of the people who buy them don't evperiense a rattle...or notice it. I was told by the CMC tech I could bend out the tabs on the top back of the trigger housing and/or the one on the front bottom in front of the trigger as well to hold it in place.

So which one should I buy? The CMC I've found as low as $145 shipped and the timney isn't much more around $167. The timney has set screws to lock it in place so I don't have to worry about trigger rattle.

You could install a Velocity trigger which is a drop-in fully assembled aluminum housing trigger. I've bought, used 4 of them so far and they worked great. I've been using 3lb. version.

Velocity is made in Phoenix or Las Vegas and they sell for $150 on GB Ebay.

Hope that helps.

Because the timney is in my POF and I'm putting together a couple if ar 10's. The 3 lb timneys are not rated for tougher ar10 military primers. I ordered a CMC 2/2.5 lb single stage trigger for $137 off optics planet the other day. I'll see how it dose.

I have a Timney in one of my .223 AR's. I love it - but I've never bought another one because of the price. Fabulous trigger group, but they're just too spendy for a bum like me. I have a Velocity in my 6.5 Grendel, and I really like it. It uses set screws to lock it in place, just like the Timney. Better yet, the price is much more reasonable. I'm also a big fan of the JP adjustable fire control group. It's not a drop-in, so install isn't quite as simple. However, if you get the adjustment just right, you can get Timney performance for a fraction of the price. All that said, I just bought a CMC. Primary Arms had them marked down to $89 for Black Friday. I couldn't resist the temptation. It's not installed yet, so I can't say whether its any good or not.

Guess I missed that sale! What poundage was the one they had on sale. I wanted the 2.5 lb single stage competition version. I paid $145 shipped for mine.

It was their original 3.5#, with the curved blade. You might sign up for their email notifications - they may run the sale again. I'm glad I snagged the deal. I just installed it in a lower this evening and it is impressive. It fit perfectly in the lower receiver and the included anti-walk pins keep it snugly in place. It breaks super clean, and the pull feels a little lighter than 3.5#. Honestly, $145 is a fair price, if the one you got is as nice as mine. At this point, $89 feels like an outright steal.

Yep, smokin deal...but I would have passed. I had my heart set on the single stage competition 2.5 lb with the curved blade. CMC says the pull comes in between 2/2.5 lbs. I read a couple reviewers who's triggers were around 2.1 lbs. I can shoot cloverleaves at a 100 yards out of my P415 14.5" barrel and .3" groups at 200 yards after installed a 3 lb timney. Same load I couldn't do better than .4" at a 100 yards with the factory 4.5 POF trigger. Amazing how a little lighter pull tightens everything up. I believe the only lighter trigger in single stage out there is the timney Calvin elete... But it's almost $300, comes with a goofy trigger you have to put attachments on, and it's not rated or AR10's. I wanted a simple traditional curved trigger for hunting. I would have went timney again but the only one they offer for an AR10 is 4.5lbs...too heavy for me. The CMC is the lightest Single stage AR10 trigger manufactured that could find.

I installed the CMC trigger today. It's got issues. There is a good amount of travel before it brakes. If I put it on safe the trigger will move a good 1/8 th of an inch till i hits the safety selector. I can pull it back to the original position as well. After researching the problem it sounds like it's a common issue. Read a lot of shooters having issues with the trigger not resetting as well. It's seems they machined off too much of the trigger lever so there is a good sized gap between it and the safety selector causing the travel. I removed the trigger and it still clicks back and forth without even being the the lower. CMC said it was either the trigger, or the safety sector switch, or aero machined the selector hole in my brand new lower in the wrong spot. Well, the trigger travels while its out of the rifle...so it's definitely the trigger without a doubt. CMC is sending another one to try but I think I'm going to send it back and exchange it for the 3 lb timney I should have bought to begin with. It's a shame the CMC brakes at 34 oz. , but it dose the seem consistent. The 3lb Timney on my POF brakes at a consistent 40 oz. , hopefully the timney will ignite all my 243 primers.

This isn't my trigger but it's basically doing the same thing as this one. When I take it off safety it has the same amount of movement...travel before the trigger brakes. So much for a single stage trigger. I would assume this caused the variance in pull weight as well. It pulled at 34 oz most of the time and would occasionally pull between 36/40 oz and then back down to 34oz.
